THE DAY OF PENTECOST The Easter Season comes to an end as recorded in the book of Acts, the second chapter fifty days after Jesus resurrection and ten days after His ascension. Its focus is on the gift of the Holy Spirit. Before this time the disciples were meeting behind closed doors, had gone back to their former occupation as fishermen, in other words returned to their former lives. On Pentecost they were empowered to go forth into the world filled with the power of God to carry out His mission in the world. We too need to be reminded that ours is not a private faith meant to simply provide us, our tribe, our nation with salvation, but the mission is to transform the world, all of creation, every people. Like Samuel or Moses, Aaron or Saul we protest our weakness only to be confronted by a God who tells us, His strength is sufficient. His Spirit is strong enough for us to move mountains. On May 15 th as we celebrate Pentecost we will see our young people confirm their faith as together with them we affirm our baptismal promises and God renews his promise to empower us for his work in the world. Join us for worship on Pentecost Sunday as we celebrate what has been called the Birthday of the Church, share in the gifts. Wear something red! Pastor McKinley OFFICE HOUR CHANGE! Volume 5 LOCAL AUTHOR ~ Pastor Frank Watson Page 4 Pastor Frank Watson, author of The Nazi Spy Pastor is having a presentation of his book on Tuesday May 24th at 1:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church. There will be dessert fellowship afterwards. Anyone interested in attending are welcome. Editorial Reviews from Amazon.com "Frank Watson's intriguing book about the mysterious Carl Krepper who came to America ostensibly as a Lutheran minister, but who was, in reality, a Nazi operative reads like a detective novel while offering insights into how to confront espionage in a post 9/11 world. During World War II, Krepper took part in one of the most wide-ranging terrorist attempts on American soil. Well-educated, with a gift for dissimulation, Krepper was able to keep three mistresses at the same time. True spy story aficionados and World War II buffs will find much to engross them in this well-written and researched work." (Warren Grover, Author of Nazis in Newark) "This meticulously researched and illuminating book could find a home on the shelves alongside the best spy novels, with the exception being this story is true. Told here for the first time is the incredible story of an American citizen and Lutheran pastor who served as the contact for Nazi saboteurs intent on blowing up war plants in the United States; and the FBI's two-year quest to bring him to justice. Watson is to be congratulated for revealing this virtually unknown dark underbelly of Nazi Germany's attempt to bring the war to America and for telling it in such an exciting way. Had Carl Krepper succeeded, his efforts could have resulted in the worst terrorist attack in the United States prior to 9/11. This is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of World War II." (James P. Duffy, Author of Target America: Hitler's Plan to Attack the United States) Summer tips: Donation Please do not forget your donations during the summer months. An easy way to do that, if you bank on line, is register the church as a bill and use your envelope number as an account number. Indicate when you would like it mailed, whether weekly or monthly include 20 Monterey Circle Lakewood NJ as the address and the bank will mail the donations accordingly. You never have to worry about envelopes and writing out checks again. If you do not bank on line make the donations for the month that you will be away and send it to the church. Remember the church goes on and needs your donations whether you are here or not. We need every "church family" member. to allow Immanuel to continue. This year we will be celebrating our 90th anniversary. With the Good Lord's help and our membership we hope to spread the "good news" for 90 more. Attendance: You attendance in church is important not only to the church but to you and the family. Summer is especially hard for some, the kids are out of school, nobody wants to get up early, and Sunday may be the perfect beach Day. If Sunday is hard in the summer, try our Saturday Evening at 5:30p.m It is only 30minutes and you can share the service experience with the kids.
