Israel and the Middle East: Between Wars and Negotiations Dr. Orit Miller Katav Oritm7@bezeqint.net Course Description The course will provide an introduction and retrospection of the wars and negotiations concerning Israel and the Arab countries in the Middle East, from the early 20 th century until the present. It will explore the wars between Israel and the Arab neighbor countries: the first Arab Israeli war in 1948 and the creation of the Palestinian refugee problem, the Saini Campaign operation in 1956, and the first martial law in Gaza Strip, the six days war, the tripling of the Israeli territories and the addition to the Palestinian refugee problem, The Yom Kippur war and the misconception, the "black September" and the beginning of the "age of terror", the 1982 Lebanon war, the Intifada in 1987, 2000, the Lebanon war 2006. The course will integrate the massages, meetings, talks, conferences and negotiations, agreements and disagreements between the sides to the point of appreciation up until peace agreements between Israel and Egypt 1979, Israel and Jordan 1994, the Oslo Agreements and the latest talks between Israel and the Palestinians. Grade The grade is based on a final exam that includes essay questions as well as multiple choice section, based on the course lessons.
