Growing in Discipleship Transformed for Ministry There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 Season of Ordinary Time This morning we celebrate the Lord s Supper; a gracious gift that God provides to Christ s body, the church. All who have been baptized into Christ, and who desire to honor him with grateful and obedient living, are invited to participate in this sacrament discerning that this bread and cup are signs and seals of God s love for us and that we who participate are members of Christ s body. We serve gluten-free bread and non-alcoholic grape juice. The liturgy of this morning's worship service begins with our gathering to offer our praise and our celebration of the Lord's Supper as a sacramental assurance of our forgiveness in Christ. This is followed by our hearing God's Word from Romans 8:1 and Revelation 12:10-11 declaring "No Condemnation", and concludes in the thankful response of our presenting our offerings of gifts and praise. Calvin CRC Announcements for September 6, 2015 WORSHIP Today, September 6 Morning Worship: The liturgy of this morning's worship service begins with our gathering to offer our praise and our celebration of the Lord's Supper as a sacramental assurance of our forgiveness in Christ. This is followed by our hearing God's Word from Romans 8:1 and Revelation 12:10-11 declaring "No Condemnation," and concludes in the thankful response of our presenting our offerings of gifts and praise. Rev. Douglas MacLeod is preaching and Mr. Bill Reed is our guest soloist. WELCOME TO CALVIN STUDENTS: Calvin College has invited us to transport students from campus to church today. Students have moved into the dorms this past Wednesday. You are welcome to greet them, and even invite them to lunch today if you so desire! We are also interested in providing transportation to and from Calvin College again this year for our Sunday morning worship. Please sign up at the information desk if you would be willing to be on the transport team. Evening Worship: Plymouth Heights CRC is hosting the combined evening service at 5:30 PM. Rev. Al Gelder, Director of Mentored Ministries at Calvin Theological Seminary, will be preaching from Ephesians 4:25-5:2 "Unending Work." The offering is for World Renew. A brass and string ensemble brings the ministry of music. WORSHIP Next Sunday, September 13 Morning Worship: The church in Smyrna is encouraged to be faithful even as they experienced a range of opposition to its testimony of Christ. Rev. MacLeod will preach from Revelation 2:8-11, "Smyrna: Under Pressure." Our offerings will be for Mission Outreach. Evening Worship: Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys will preach from Galatians 2:15-21, "Wanted: Dead and Alive." If you're reading through scripture with the Calvin Church schedule this fall, you will read this text this week Wednesday. Our offering will be for Criminal Justice Chaplaincy. COUNCIL NEWS From your Deacons: Thank you, Calvin Church, for your generous response to our request for Christian education tuition assistance for our friends and associate members, the Mochizukis. We have met our goal and have received enough contributions to cover the required tuition. Any overage, unless specifically designated otherwise, will go to the Benevolence Fund to assist the family with rent and other living expenses. CHURCH FAMILY Congratulations to Chelsea Bulthuis (District 7) and Josh Tilma who were united in marriage this past Friday evening.

The flowers in the sanctuary today are given in memory of my donor Emily and in gratitude to God for His abundant mercies these past two years. Judy and Dan Bode and family THANK YOU fails to express my love for all your prayers, cards, and attentiveness shown to me and Hans during these last weeks. I want to quote a hymn: Give thanks to God who hears our cries and saves in troubled days with wondrous works to human kind that call for highest praise...so praise the One whose love is great, whose kindness is well known, consider well the healing hand and help you have been shown, and tell the world what God has done. Praise God and God alone. LUYH # 359. In Christ, Gert and Hans To our dear friends at Calvin; thank you for your prayers, visits, cards, food, phone calls, and flowers. We belong to a wonderful congregation who are caring. Please keep us in your prayers. Jean VerHulst CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES BIRTHDAYS THIS WEEK: 9/6 Sarah Brouwer (16!) 9/8 Ethan Baker (7!) INTERGENERATIONAL CHURCH SCHOOL: Next Sunday, September 13, we will kick off the church school year by gathering in the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 AM to learn from each other as we explore TRUST. What is the difference between trust and love? What does it mean to trust God with our lives? What does the Bible say about trust? We'll meet again on September 20, when the theme will be FEAR. We plan to meet twice next spring, too, to explore FORGIVENESS and ACCEPTANCE. This is a new twist on our Intergenerational Church School, with a more relaxed format and more time for discussion. All ages are welcome. Come again or try it for the first time. For parents who prefer it, nursery care will be available. COME O O A TIT: The Congregational Care Committee is excited about offering this new opportunity for smaller groups to enjoy fellowship with fellow members while sharing a meal. If you didn't have a chance to stop by the Bon Appétit table on the 30 th, or didn't fill out the sign-up sheet, copies are available on the Welcome Desk. Get a couple friends together and join the fun of fellowship in a smaller group setting. Once groups are organized, each group will decide how often to gather and where to eat. Welcome to Calvin Church In Worship: Our worship proceeds unannounced and follows the printed liturgy. The Chancel banner expresses the Christian belief that in one God there are three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The color green represents growth in this season of the church year.
