Greensboro, North Carolina Newsletter November 2010 www.onsd.club.officelive.com Volume 1 Issue 7 The President s Corner by William Purkey Hello, ONSD diggers and friends, Now that our ONSD Club is entering its second year, perhaps it's time to consider a name for our ONSD newsletter. Here are some clever and humorous names from other metal detecting clubs. Results of the Old Grist Mill Hunt Jamestown, NC - September 25, 2010 Members returned and searched the grounds around the house and uncovered a few more relics. Several items of interest were located, including a sprocket of some sort, broken dishware, and two cover plates for a doorknob. The club welcomed Samuel and Heather Green and their two sons to the hunt. Dirty Five Cache & Trash The Tinfoil Times Arti-Facts The Scoop The Hole Thing Down & Dirty Diggers The Grub Stake The Pull Tab The Pelican Pouch The Dirty Knees Please be thinking about two questions: Remember to meet at the Alamance Battleground Visitor Center auditorium this Saturday, October 25th. The club meeting will begin at 9:00 am. 1. Do we need a special name, or is ONSD Newsletter sufficient? 2. Do you have a suggested name for our ONSD Club newsletter? Happy dig. William W. Purkey ONSD President

2 The Old Grist Mill Hunt #2 - September 25, 2010 - Jamestown, NC

3 Code of Ethics The Old North State Detectorists (ONSD) encourages responsible conduct and strict compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and restrictions. ONSD takes pride in adopting this Code of Ethics. I will respect private property and do no metal detecting without the owner's permission. I will fill in all excavations and do no damage to property. I will work with and support professional archaeologists and historians to protect national treasures. I will remove and properly dispose of any trash I dig or is located in my digging area. I will make a reasonable effort to return identifiable items to their owners. I will conduct myself with courtesy and seek to set an example for other detectorists. Adopted by unanimous vote of ONSD members, February 6, 2010. Treasurer s Report as of September 25, 2010 Ronald R Washburn Treasurer Starting Balance Credits Debits $266.80 50/50 split 19.00 285.80 Donation Randy Woolbright 19.00 304.80 Membership dues received 40.00 344.80 Payment for pins William Purkey -35.00 309.80 Ending Balance $309.80 ONSD Future Hunting Sites by William Purkey Keep your eyes and ears open for good sites for a group hunt. Let us know and we will write and seek permission to hunt. This approach has been highly successful thus far. Letters of recommendation and appreciation, plus our ONSD Code of Ethics, are attached to the request. Be thinking of old churches, youth camps, VFW and American Legion Posts, construction sites, relatives' property, and many other opportunities.
