The Jesus Story 3 - November The Big Disaster The Point: We all fall down Storyline: The Fall: Genesis 3 from JSB Ch. 3 The Terrible Lie Make the Point: o Satan always lies. o When we sin, it s like falling from God. Presentation Ideas: o God always gives us a way back to him Week One: The Terrible Lie Play the DVD: The Jesus Storybook Bible, The Terrible Lie. Remind them that last month they learned that everything God made was good, but now something not good has happened and that something is sin. Ask them to share times when they disobeyed and talk about how disobeying/sinning does not turn out to be good. Communion Idea: Talk about the fact that everyone sins and we all need Jesus to help us out of our trouble. As the Lord Supper is being served, play the GodTube video DVD I need thee every hour. ( http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=wwzk7wnx) Week Two: Satan always lies Review the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden either with puppets or by asking questions to see what the children remember. Use The Lie Trap object lesson to emphasize the point that Satan s lies are a trap. Week Three: The Way Back to God Focus this week on the idea that God rescues us from Satan s trap. Ask kids if they remember the spider web video and let them tell what they remember. Talk about how that fly could not get out on its own, but needed a rescue. That s the same with us when we fall from God, we need a rescue. Show them the super hero emblems and let them identify the superhero. Ask if any super hero can rescue us from Satan s trap? Who can? God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit are real super heroes, because they can rescue us from Satan s trap. Communion Idea: Tie the real super hero idea into communion thoughts. We are celebrating because Jesus rescued us from Satan s trap. He got us out by dying on the cross. During communion, let kids sit in a circle on their rugs and pass the cross around as they sing Lord I Lift Your Name on High. At the end, stand up and sing it with all the motions. Week Four: Replay DVD: The Jesus Storybook Bible, Chapter 3. Review with puppets all the things they have learned during the month. Use the Resist the Devil object lesson.
Hide it in Your Heart: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 Puppets: Each week, one puppet will help you with intro and close out with Quiet Seat winners. We will have a puppet production the 2 nd and 4 th weeks. These will be about 5 minutes long and will focus on the application.
Object Lesson: The Lie Trap The Lie Trap Play the youtube video of a horse fly fighting the spider. http://www.youtube.com/watch?nr=1&v=os4cr2glesa&feature=endscreen Explain that Satan is like that spider. He wants us to listen to his lies instead of God s truth. The web is like the lies we will get wrapped up and not be able to get out. Questions: Was the fly happy? Do you think the fly wishes it had never gotten into the web? Could it ever get out by itself? If you listen to Satan s lies what can happen to you? Who can get you out of Satan s trap? Have you ever lied? Did you end up wishing that you never had? If you do get trapped in a lie, who should you go to for help? Relevant Scripture Tell kids that one time Jesus was talking to some people who were listening to the devil s lies. This is what he said: (Read the Scripture from your Bible) John 8:44 [Jesus said] You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Object Lesson: Resist the Devil Resist the Devil James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Additional Verses: 1 Peter 5:8-9; Ephesians 4:27; Ephesians 6:11-12 Materials Needed Pair of running shoes Object Lesson Many times the devil will come to tempt us, just like he did to Adam and Eve. He will try to get us to do things that don t please God. He will try to discourage us. He will try to tell us that God does not love us. Whenever we get thoughts like these we need to recognize that it is the devil bringing those thoughts. The Bible tells us in James 4:7 that we need to resist the devil and he will flee from us. How do we resist the devil? We choose to not listen to him. We quote Scripture verses that we have learned. We rebuke him and command him to leave in the name of Jesus. (Show the running shoes.) When we begin to quote Scriptures and use the name of Jesus the devil begins to get scared! He cannot stay around when we are speaking God s Word and talking about Jesus. Do you know what that devil does? He grabs his running shoes and puts them on! Then he runs as fast as he can to get away from you! That devil cannon tolerate the name of Jesus. When we resist the devil and tell him NO he will run away. He may try to discourage you, but when you rebuke him he will take off! Whenever we feel like the devil is beginning to speak evil thoughts into our lives we need to resist him and make him put on his running shoes and flee!
