The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit Part 3 Understanding the Person, the Purpose, and the Power of the Holy spirit Joh 16:12-15 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. Joh 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. Joh 16:14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. Joh 16:15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
The Holy Spirit As Person Last week we looked at two scriptural proofs of about the fact that the Holy Spirit is a person not an impersonal force or Energy as many portray Him. We looked at Association and Intimate Fellowship Proofs as well as the personal pronoun proofs from the word of God. We shall be looking at 2 other important proofs of the personality of the Holy Spirit this morning: # 3 Personal Title Proof In the word of God, the same personal titles that are used for Jesus were used to describe the Holy Spirit. Joh 14:16, 26 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;. VS:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. The first revelation here is the phrase ANOTHER COMFORTER. This means, you have one comforter here right now, but another comforter who will do exactly what he does is the person called the Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name. That means both of us similarities in nature as well as function. The Holy Spirit is a personality just like Jesus is a personality. The second thing worthy of note is the fact that the word translated as comforter here is the greek word PARAKLETOS which literally means intercessor, advocate. 1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. The word translated here as advocate is the same Greek word PARACKLETOS translated as comforter. Jesus is currently with the father performing the role of advocate Helping you to present your case before the father, while while the Holy Spirit is here performing the role of advocate for your on earth - helping you to prepare your case on earth and passing it to your heavenly advocate the Jesus Christ who then present to the father.
Rom 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Rom 8:27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. You see the easiest way to loose a case before earthly court or judge is to insist on presenting your case by yourself, rejecting all help or assistance your lawyer or advocate can offer. You may have a good case and still loose because you do not know how to present it accurately and legally. Many Christians are struggling in life and unable to get their prayers answered because they insist on presenting their case by themselves, rejecting all the help and assistance the Holy Spirit can offer. And they wonder why they are unable to get their prayers answered as quickly or as frequently as they desire. Satan will do anything to ensure that you appreciate and understand the Holy Spirit as a Person and personal helper, because that will be to his own disadvantage. Jud 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Praying in the Holy Spirit or Praying with help of the Holy Spirit builds up your faith, and gets you more result than just shouting, rolling on the floor, banging your head your head on the wall, accusing God of being unfair, or even bombarding the gate of heaven as some call it. # 4 Feelings and Emotions Dimension of the Holy Spirit Another important proof of the fact that the Holy spirit is a person like God the father, and God the Son, is the fact that the scripture makes it very clear that he has and expresses feelings and emotion only possible for Persons to express. The Holy Spirit expresses the following feelings in scripture: The Holy Spirit can be Grieved Eph 4:29-30 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Now let me lay a very important foundation here. Many people have wrongly portrayed the Holy Spirit like an emotionally imbalanced person, who you have to be very careful around lest he gets angry and explode on your face and destroy you in the process. We that is not true and can never be true of any member of the God head. The Holy Spirit like God or Jesus is not looking out for opportunity to destroy or give you problem He is here to help, to save, to deliver, to guide and to heal you physically, mentally and spiritually. So like God the father, He has and expresses emotions but he is not ruled by emotions but by principles of the word of God. When the word of God is violated intentionally, willfully, and consistently his emotions are negatively impacted. When you consistently seek after and practice the principles of the word of God his emotions are positively impacted. Eph 4:29-30 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that itmay impart grace to the hearers. Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. The key to understanding why the holy spirit is grieved here found in the word AND that begins this verse 30 meaning that it is connected to or depends on verse 29. That means if you have the Holy Spirit within and you consistently allow evil words or lies to flow out of you mouth, each time you do that the holy Spirit is grieved. But is He grieved? Because He knows that the words that comes out of your mouth will eventually destroy you if they are evil or corrupt. Pro 6:2 You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth. Mat 12:37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." You may be ignorant or have forgotten of these principles, but he does not forget, and he knows they are laws that will work against you. So when you keep violating the laws by allowing Satan to use your mouth, the Holy Spirit is grieved not because of His ego but for you. Because you are preventing Him from doing what He is sent in your life to do by making your life vulnerable to satan s attack even when he the Helper is there. He grieved because you are rejecting His Help
Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things. This is will excite the holy Spirit, What he wants to help you to do in your life if you cultivate a good relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit can be Insulted Heb 10:28-29 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Heb 10:29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? First I want you to note that the Holy is not insulted because of Himself or His ego, he is insulted because the Son of God is trampled underfoot, and his blood covenant considered inadequate or common thing. Every time you communize the covenant of grace and try to relapse back to the law of Moses or try to access the throne room using your own righteousness instead of the righteousness of God purchased by the blood of Jesus you insult the Holy Spirit within you. You make it difficult for the Holy Spirit to prepare your case on earth and package it for Jesus Christ your advocate before the father. You insult him by saying I know what is require and what will get me the attention and answer from God. You insult him because you say I am a better advocate than you are, I can present my case. He feels insulted because you discount his expertise and prefer your own ignorance. He feels insulted because He has to humbly present a stupid case before the Heavenly advocate Jesus Christ the Son of God, who will be unable to present your defective case before the father. Every time you attribute to works of the law what the blood of Jesus purchase you insult the Holy Spirit and despise Jesus the Son of God. The Holy Spirit Can be Resisted Act 7:51 "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
This happens when a person chooses to willfully disobey a wellunderstood, revealed principle of the word of God in a specific area of your life. You are actively resisting the Holy Spirit and it can expose you to dangerous consequences. The active word here is; ALWAYS. That is it a pattern. It is not something that is a mistake or that occurs once in a while. It is always. The manifestation of the Holy Spirit can be put out or Quenched 1Th 5:19-20 Do not quench the Spirit.20 Do not despise prophecies. When you consistently resist or reject the manifestation of the spirt in a environment or your life, such manifestation will cease to happen because the Holy Spirit being a gentle person will not impose Himself on you or consistently strive with you. Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.
