Dear Participant, On Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 8 am to 4 pm, the Jonesborough Genealogical Society will host its fourth Tour of Washington County, Tennessee, where participants will see historic sites and sounds across our amazing county. Elaine Cantrell, JGS Director, and Chad Bailey, JGS Treasurer, will be the tour guides across an eight-hour tour route, which will include much of the northwestern part of the county, including a ride on part of the old stage coach road. Participants will learn and see many sites in the communities of Tavern Hill, Hales Community, Hairetown, Keeblers Crossroads, Pleasant Valley, Buffalo Ridge, Hales Chapel, Gray, Douglas Shed, Kincheloe Mill, Harmony, Hartmantown, Greggtown, Logans Chapel, Cherry Hill, Glendale, Providence, Ducktown and Blackley Creek. Creeks, cemeteries, homes, historic sites, and so much more will be pointed out along the way. Stories will be told and fun will be had! Much of this tour will be based on Elaine Cantrell s historic survey of Washington County, Tennessee, which contains 24 volumes of photographs of sites and sounds of Washington County. This tour will begin at the Jonesborough Visitor Center, 117 Boone Street, Jonesborough, at 8 am. Please arrive at the Jonesborough Visitor Center at least 30 minutes prior to loading. Parking will be available on a first come first serve basis at the Jonesborough Visitor Center in the left parking lot closest to the library and a secondary parking lot is behind the Visitor Center closest to the Jonesborough Post Office. The bus will be loaded and leave promptly at 8 am. Participants will take a tour of the 1850s Keebler-Keefauver House, 632 Hales Chapel Road, where participants will get to step back in time and learn about the Keebler family, who are buried on the property, and the slaves who helped build the house, as well as the Keefauvers legacy in the dairy business.. In addition, lunch will be served at the 1939 Harmony School, 1017 Painter Road. In the afternoon, Participants will stop and tour of the Providence Presbyterian Church and Cemetery, 2165 Happy Valley Road, which is the 2 nd

oldest church in East Tennessee. The stonewall around the cemetery does not contain any adhesives and has stood the test of gravity and time for 200 plus years. Cost is $50 for JGS members and $55 for public. 30 seats are available. Sincerely, Chad Fred Bailey
