June 10, 2018 The Pastor s Corner Commencement - (noun) the conclusion of one phase or program, such as in learning, with a formal transition to the next. This week our 24 graduates of St. Margaret School completed their middle school education. The Commencement Mass and graduation ceremony highlighted the formal conclusion of this phase of their educational journey. However, the verb commencing also is in evidence. They are now beginning the next phase of their high school education. The blessing, raising, and flying of the St. Margaret Flag in their honor for the month of June is a reminder that they are now part of the educational history of St. Margaret School. Congratulations on your accomplishments. This achievement is the united effort of your parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and parishioners of the St. Margaret Parish Family. Whether great or small, the combined encouragement, involvement, and financial resources of everyone makes this event a reality. Mrs. Nunes, the faculty and I thank you for your efforts. God bless the Class of 2018! The flag flies for you. We return this Sunday to Ordinary Time. It continues to the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 25, which is also Thanksgiving weekend. The Gospel reading will highlight the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus. Today s gospel presents a very strong reaction to the commencement of the public ministry; even some closest to Him thought he was possessed by an unclean spirit. Jesus response to those who told him that his mother and family arrived can seem as a brush-off. Not so! The universal invitation to salvation is announced. Anyone who hears and responds generously to do the will of the Father is mother, brother and sister. Mary had already witnessed to that with her response to become the Mother of God. The invitation is even extended to us to be mother, brother and sister to Him. Make that decision; Follow Him! And let summer begin... ~Monsignor Darcy
