www.atlantahog.com February 2011 HOGWASH DIRECTOR S ARTICLE Here we are in February already with a decade plus down in the 21st century. Riding weather is soon approaching, at least I hope so because as I type this article they are predicting four to six inches of snow tomorrow and an ice storm. We just had a white Christmas, which was very neat by the way. I hope Santa was good to you all. With our first business meeting of the year behind us, your officers have some lofty goals for the chapter. We have set our major charity to support as Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, Lisa Herman is the founder and is also sponsored by our dealer. Lisa is very visible around the dealership and could use our help. The battle against this terrible disease is near and dear to this chapter because we ve suffered losses to it. I hope you all will work with me to assist Lisa. Well, let s forge ahead, do our riding and have our fun. Until we ride together, be safe. Bobby Conway, Director President s Day Ride The Official Newsletter of the Atlanta Chapter, Inc. Chapter Number 0788 SAFETY OFFICER S ARTICLE Safety Review Riding safely is mostly a matter of knowledge and attitude, and riding safely doesn t have to be boring. In fact, practicing safe techniques could add years of fun to your life. Listed below are ten habits to practice that will help keep you safe and make riding more enjoyable. 1. Be ready: mind, body, and bike 2. Be smooth 3. Know where you are 4. Use your head (to look where you re going) 5. Before proceeding through any intersection, check left, check front, check right, then check left again 6. Keep a 2-4 second following distance 7. Whenever you slow, first check your rearview mirror 8. Ride with a great attitude 9. When your line of sight or path of travel becomes restricted, reduce your speed and use great care 10. Practice Join me on Sunday, February 20 (which is actually the day before President s Day ) for The President s Day Ride. We will be leaving from the pavilion for an approximately 2-hour ride to FDR s Little White House in Warm Springs, GA. We will take the tour (IT COST $8). Afterward we can grab some lunch in downtown. This ride as all is rain or shine, bikes or cage. If the forecast is iffy please feel free to call (404-502-2380) to determine which we will be taking. Bobby Conway, Road Captain Jim Byrd, Safety Officer Red Robin Lunch Ride Come join me for a ride to the Red Robin in Newnan, GA. Here you will have one of the best burgers in Atlanta. You can try the Burnin Love, the Whiskey River BBQ burger or many more. In addition, you can dive into the bottomless fries and soft drinks. Make sure to come with an empty stomach and full tank. (Cage or bike, depending on weather). Matt Langley, Road Captain

LOH S ARTICLE What is Ladies of Harley Ladies of Harley (LOH) is a program sponsored by the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) to support women motorcycle enthusiasts - both drivers and passengers. Ladies of Harley was established to be an additional feature of the Harley Owners Group, not a separate entity. It is not a separate organization within H.O.G., but was established to encourage women to become more active in H.O.G. and their local chapters, not to exclude men. Remember. You don t have to have your own a motorcycle to be an LOH member. To belong to LOH, you must be an active full, full life, associate or associate life member of H.O.G. Although LOH is free of charge, this benefit is not automatic. If you would like to join, update your national membership profile to include LOH. Ladies of Harley membership also allows you to participate in all LOH activities at various H.O.G. rallies and events. The Atlanta Chapter s LOH encourages all of our members to be active participants in our chapter events so come on out and join the fun! Get your knees in the breeze y all! Melissa Folds, LOH Officer CHAPLAIN S ARTICLE If you would like to know (need help). Psalms: Chapter 121: 1-2 1. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. Wendell King, Chaplain 770-943-9856 home 678-251-6741 cell Shane s Social Recap Our Atlanta Chapter Shane s Social Carrollton Bike Night came to an end on 12/20/2010, after two years of monthly meetings. This was a great way for our members to get together and discuss fun events for our chapter. Some of the good things that came from our gatherings were: re-visiting the Georgia Covered Bridge Tour, we worked toward reactivating LOH, shared ideas for future rides, safety workshops and chapter activities the list goes on and on. Thanks to all who participated, I thoroughly enjoyed our time together. I m hoping that one of our members will start up a new monthly gathering in the western territory! Ride on, Chuck (Chaos) Fuller, Road Captain Good Luck Ride Recap Register for the 2011 GA State HOG Rally Click on the link on the Atlanta Chapter Web Page Well it was a rainy, nasty day, but we still had 13 folks show up and we caged our way down to Buckner s for some wonderful fellowship and outstanding food. I want everyone to know in a situation like this, we always like to ride our bikes, but we are not above caging it. We are as much a social group of friends as a riding group. More rides to come. Bobby Conway, Road Captain 2011 GA State HOG Rally September 8-11 Hiawassee, GA
