The General and party were welcomed by Deputy Commander of Central Command Brig-Gen Tin Soe, Tactical Operations Commander of No 5S LID Col Myint Thein Khaing and officials. Shan State Superintending Engineer of Public Works U Ohn Kyaing reported on Hanmyinmo Myogyi-Ywangan-Aungban Road and undertakings. Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun and Chairman of Shan State Law and Order Restoration Council-Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Tin Htut also gave supplementary reports. General Maung Aye gave instructions. Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Tin Soe reported on excavation of an ancient cave in Sakhangyi Village, Ywangan Township and Chairman of Ywangan Township Law and Order Restoration Council U Nyunt Soe on small birds in the cave. The Hanmyinmo-Myogyi-Ywangan-Aungban Road, 80 miles and three furlongs, is a link between Aungban Township of Shan State and Kyaukse Township of Mandalay Division.
The road shortens 44 miles from Kalaw and Meiktila and 132 miles from Ywangan. A total of 10 miles six furlongs in Mandalay Division has been tarred. A total length of 69 miles and 7 furlongs of the road is located in Shan State. By March, 48 miles will have been tarred. The access road linking Shan State and Mandalay Division will be upgraded to all-weather one. The General, the Secretary-2 and party gave necessary instructions and met township officials and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association. They then flew to Bagan-NyaungU where they were welcomed by Minister for Rail Transportation U Win Sein, Inspector-General of Defence Services Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chairman of Mandalay Division Law and Order Restoration Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, the commanders, officials and families. The General, the Secretary-2 and party inspected progress of work of Bagan Archaeology Museum. Mandalay Division Superintending Engineer U Yan Aung, Director of Archaeology Department U Aung Kyaing and Deputy Director of National Museum Daw Nu Mra Zan reported on progress of work and arrangements for display of cultural artifacts. (2) Yuzana Hotel hails anniversary of State Law and Order Restoration Council YANGON, 13 Sept-Hailing the anniversary of the State Law and Order Restoration Council, the inauguration ceremony of Yuzana Hotel under the Zagawa Business Centre Project, jointly constructed by Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development of the Ministry of Construction and Yuzana Construction Co Ltd on mutual benefit, was held at the hotel at No 130, Shwegondaing Street, Bahan Town ship this morning. Present were Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, ministers, deputy ministers, the Vice-Mayor, the deputy commander of Yangon Command, heads of departments, chairmen and members of the District and Township Law and Order Restoration Councils, Chairman of Yuzana Co Ltd U Htay Myint and Yuzana Hotel families and staff and guests. Staff Officer of Myanma Television and Radio Department Daw Than Than Win emceed the ceremony and read the salient points about Yuzana Hotel.
Director-General of DHSHD U Arnt Kyaw, Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt and U Htay Myint formally opened the hotel. The Secretary-1, ministers and party toured the hotel. At modern Yuzana Centre, 50 % of the centre is hotel, 25 % super market and 25 % office. Foreign and local guests can pay the hotel either in the Myanmar currency or foreign exchange. The Yuzana Hotel, includes 198 rooms and business centre, function hall, restaurant, fitness centre, beauty salon, karaoke hall, jacuzzi, massage parlour, meeting hall, souvenir shop, ATM machine, limousine service and others. (3) Exhibition of 1,000 Photo Documentaries on Nation Building Endeavours of State Law and Order Restoration Council opens YANGON, 13 Sept - Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the opening of the nine-day Exhibition of 1,000 Photo Documentaries on Nation Building Endeavours of State Law and Order Restoration Council at Tatmadaw Convention Centre on U Wisara Road this morning. Also present were Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Chairman of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board U Maung Maung Gyi, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Thein Win, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint, senior military officers, deputy ministers, Chairman of the Exhibition Organizing Committee Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein and members, chairmen of Thabin, Music and Motion Picture Asiayons, heads of department, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, personne1 of departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Information and guests. Daw Than Than Win of Myanma Television and Radio Department was emcee. Deputy Minister U Thein Sein formally opened the exhibition. The Secretary-1, ministers, deputy ministers and guests viewed the exhibits including the message sent by Senior General Than Shwe on the occasion of the 48th Anniversary Independence Day, a portrait of the Senior General, photos on political, economic and social sectors, Internet and documentary video and models of housing projects undertaken by private construction firms. The Secretary-1 gave counsel to the officials. The exhibition will be open from 10 am to 7 pm till 21 September.
(4) Hantha Yeikmon Housing Complex, new building of Primary School No 9 inaugurated in Kamayut Township YANGON, 13 Sept - Hailing the Anniversary of the State Law and Order Restoration Council, Hantha Yeikmon Housing Complex was inaugurated in Ward No 4, Kamayut Township, this morning along with the opening ceremony of new building of Kamayut Township Primary School No 9. Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremonies. First, Director-General U Arnt Kyaw of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development Deputy Minister for Education Col Kyi Maung and Chairman of Yuzana Construction Group U Htay Myint formally inaugurated the housing complex and the new school building. Then, the Secretary-1 and officials inspected the school building. Next, U Arnt Kyaw handed documents related to the new school to Director-General U Bo Win of Basic Education Department. U Htay Myint handed 80 sets of desk and chair for the primary school to BED through-yangon Division Education Officer U Htwe Aung. The ceremonies were also attended by deputy ministers, the vice-mayor, the deputy commander, heads of departments, authorities of district and township, USDA members, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade members and the residents. Hantha Yeikmon Housing Complex is located on Bayintnaung Road, Ward No 4, Kamayut Township. Ward No 4 was a residential ward without systematic drainage, water supply and sanitation systems before and,majority of its residents could not afford to construct good buildings. Under coordination meetings of DHSHD and residents of the ward held in October last year, the department and Yuzana Construction Group jointly undertook construction of four-unit apartment buildings on 16 plots. The residents will be resettled in the buildings next month. While implementing the hut-to-apartment project and projects to upgrade residential wards, Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development is also upgrading the infrastructure around project areas to possess characteristics of upgraded wards. Therefore, Yuzana undertook construction of a two-storey reinforced concrete type building for the school which is next to the project area.
The new schoo1 building has five classrooms, one hall, one computer unit, one office for school head and teachers' common room. DHSHD spent K 12 million on construction of the new school building. (5) Secretary-1 inspects basic education primary schools in Bahan Township YANGON, 13 Sept - Chairman of Myanmar National Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected Basic Education Primary Schools No 19, 22, 12 and 24 in Bahan Township, Yangon Division, this afternoon. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Education Col Kyi Maung, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Secretary of the Yangon City Development Committee U Kyaw Win, officials of the Office of the State Law and Order Restoration Council, department heads, members of District, Township and Ward Law and Order Restoration Councils, township education officer, heads of the schools, teachers, members of Parent Teacher Association, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and students. The Secretary- 1 was briefed on the school history, strength of staff, number of pupils, teaching work, pass percentage, renovation of the schools and requirements by Headmistress Daw Tin San of BEPS No 19 on Yedashe Lanthit in Shwenatha Ward, Bahan Township, by Headmistress Daw- Khin Aye Myint of BEAS No 22 on Yedashelanthit in Yedashe Ward, by Headmaster U Than Win of BEPS No 12 on Shwegondaing Road in Aleshwegondaing Ward and by Headmistress Daw Tin Oo of BEPS No 24 on Shwegondaing Road in Asheshwegondaing Ward. Col Kyi Maung and officials submitted supplementary reports. Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt looked into the requirements for renovation of the schools. Teachers are responsible for not only imparting academic knowledge to their pupils but also nurturing them to be polite and clever and abide by discipline, he noted. He urged the teachers to instil civic duties in their pupils from the primary school level, cultivating Union and patriotic spirit and preserving traditional culture. He called on the teachers to make the best use of school hours and to strive for achieving good pass percentage. (6) K 1 million for Annual General Meeting of USDA YANGON, 13 Sept-Hailing the Annual General Meeting (1997) of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, President of Yunnan Machinery & Equipment Import and Export Corporation Mr Lin Zai You of the People's Republic of China donated K 1 million to Annual General Meeting of USDA at
Inwa Yeiktha of the Training School for USDA Management Course at Central Public Relations Unit in Hmawby Township this afternoon.usda Secretary-General U Than Aung accepted the donation and thanked the donor. Mr Lin Zai You also spoke. Present were Secretariat of USDA U Khin Maung Thein, CEC member U Than Shwe and Secretaries of State and Division USDAs. (7) Daewoo donates K 20 million as relief aid YANGON, 13 Sept. Chairman of Daewoo Corporation Mr Woo Choong Kim donated K 20 million to Secretary-1 of the State Law and Order Restoration Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt for relief and resettlement work in Bago and Ayeyawady Divisions. On behalf of the Mr Woo Choong Kim, Daewoo Managing Director in Yangon Mr T C Shin presented K 20 million to Minister for National Planning and Economic Development. On behalf of the Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Minister Abel accepted the donation. Minister Abel handed cash to Director-General of Department of Relief and Resettlement U Saw Thein. (8) Minister for Transport inspects construction work of Yangon International Airport YANGON, 13 Sept-Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Thein Win this morning inspected tree planting for greening of Yangon International Airport. He was welcomed by Director-General of Department of Civil Aviation U Tin Aye and officials who conducted him around planted trees. The minister gave instructions. He also inspected installation of elevator and the airport construction project. At the fire station, Project Manager Mr Kanchit and Mr Arizumi of Pacific Consultant International briefed the minister on scale model of Mandalay international airport. Then, Minister Lt-Gen Thein Win attended the fire engine donation ceremony for the Ministry of Transport at the fire station at 8 am today. Present also were Director General of Department of Civil Aviation U Tin Aye and officials.
On behalf of the Mr Ishiyama of Japan-Myanmar History and Culture Association, Mr Taiji Kawakawi presented document related to the fire engine to U Tin Aye. U Tin Aye thanked the donor and presented gifts. The minister and party then inspected the fire engine.
