Home Going Celebration for Sunrise July 8,1948 Sunset March 13, 2016 Jerome C. Fernandes Service Friday, May 20, 2016-12:00 Noon PHILLIPS METROPOLITAN CHRISTIAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH 27 Morris Avenue Newark, New Jersey 07103 Rev. Marshall J. Jenifer, Officiating

God looked upon his garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain. He knew you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone For part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. ~ Submitted by The Family ~

Jerome Compton Fernandes, son of the late Jerry and Shirley Fernandes, was born in Georgetown, Guyana on July 8, 1948. He peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2016. Jerome was educated in the Guyana school system. After completing high school he attended the Guyana Technical Institute where he successfully obtained his City and Guilds Certificate. He immigrated to the United States of America in 1968 and shortly after began his studies at Essex County College where he majored in math and physics. Jerome proceeded on to attend Rutgers University where he completed his bachelor s degree in Engineering. Jerome s pursuits to excellence led him to obtain his master s degree in Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. While attending Rutgers University he went back to Essex County College and taught math and physics for approximately two years. He also taught math and physics at West Caldwell State Prison. Jerome worked as an Engineer for Verizon for over twenty-six years. After his retirement, he enjoyed keeping busy and used his many talents including electrical, carpentry and masonry. His love of people and service often afforded him the ability to provide his quality work for nominal cost. Jerome was a loving and proud father of three sons. He was full of life, love and laughter. Jerome was a world traveler with a passion for cruises and had voyaged on over fifty cruises. His frequent travels led him to visit over forty states. He loved to be surrounded by friends and enjoyed spending his time at Clarence s mechanic shop. He was a great debater and enjoyed a good discussion.

Jerome was a generous man who was always willing and ready to do a kind favor, to share his words of wisdom and to offer his guidance to anyone who needed a hand. He was loved by countless people and was cherished for being so many things to so many people. Jerome was always happy to take the lead in any endeavor. He was charming, strong willed and had a sensitive loving heart. Jerome knew how to live life to its fullest and was always the life of the party. He was revered for his sense of humor and comedic relief and was able to put a smile on your face and make you laugh. Jerome was predeceased by his sisters, Thelma L. Porter and Valdiana V. Josiah. Left to cherish his memory on earth are his sons, Jerome Francis (Gisela), Roland and Shawn; his beloved companion and best friend, Victoria Levine and sons Brian and Derrick; his grandchildren, Frances Jolie, Dante, Renee, Robyn and Rhyan; his brothers, Wesley Lacon, Julian, Aubrey (Tego), Rodwell, Terrence and Brian; his younger sister, Karen and brother-in-law, Allen Porter; and a host of nieces and nephews, countless relatives and a wealth of friends.
