In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.

Begin with the Lord s prayer Our Lord and Savior, our King and God, we thank you for gathering us here to stand before you to call on your Holy Name. Heavenly Father, teach us to trust You in everything we do. Our God open our eyes, ears, hearts and minds to Your Word today. Bless all the children and keep them safe. Hear us when we humbly and thankfully pray to you.

Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from the evil one For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the Glory. Forever, Amen.

O our Lady, as St. Gabriel greeted you, Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. True Virgin in conscience as well as body, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Holy Mary, the God-bearer, pray that your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, may forgive us our sins. Amen.

Say The Jesus Prayer 3 times Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Pharaoh s Opposition And The Ten Plagues March 31, 2013

Memory Verse Let My people go, that they may serve Me (Exodus 9:13)

Objective To show the students the power of God and His care for His people.

Introduction God sent judgment on those who did not believe him, showed mercy to those who trusted him and led His people out of slavery.

Pharaoh was angry! God had commanded him through Moses to let the Israelite slaves leave Egypt. "Who is the LORD? Why should I obey him?" he said angrily so he refused.

So he made the Israelites work even harder, gathering straw and making bricks day and night without rest. The weary Israelites must have wondered, "Does God really care for us?"

The people blamed Moses and Aaron for their troubles.

Moses found a place to pray. O Lord. he cried, You have not rescued Your people at all. I am the Lord and I will bring you out, God answered.

Again God sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh with the same message, but once again Pharaoh would not listen. So the Lord told Aaron to give Pharaoh a sign.

Aaron took his staff and threw it down on the ground. Right there in Pharaoh's court it became a snake! Quickly Pharaoh called in his magicians, and they did a similar thing. But all the other snakes were swallowed up by Aaron's snake. God was showing Pharaoh and the Egyptians that he was Lord over everything, but Pharaoh would not honor God.

Next morning, Moses and Aaron met Pharaoh at the river. When Aaron held out his rod, God turned the water into blood. Fish died. People couldn t drink the water! but Pharaoh hardened his heart. He would not let the Israelites leave Egypt.

Then God sent another plague. Once again, Aaron stretched his staff over the waters of Egypt. Suddenly, thousands of frogs hopped out of the streams and ponds and covered the land. They were everywhere. They hopped into houses, into cupboards and ovens, even into beds!

Pray for me, that God will remove the frogs, Pharaoh pleaded. And I will let your people go. But do you think Pharaoh kept his promise? No! When the frogs were gone, he changed his mind.

God then sent billions of tiny bugs called lice. Every person and beast itched from their bites. Even the magicians knew that this was an act of God and told Pharaoh, but Pharaoh would not listen to them.

Then God sent swarms of flies among the Egyptians.

Next he sent a plague that killed their cattle, but still Pharaoh's heart remained as hard as stone.

Then God told Moses to throw ashes in the air in front of Pharaoh.

This caused a terrible skin disease to spread among the people and animals. They broke out in painful boils. Yet Pharaoh still would not obey God's commands.

God sent a plague of hailstones that flattened crops and stripped trees. God kept the Israelites safe, but the Egyptians were not spared.

Pharaoh wanted the plagues to stop, but he did not fear the Lord's judgment.

So the plagues continued. God sent a swarm of locusts. They swept down to eat every green thing that grew in the land.

Pharaoh cried out for God to stop, but when God sent a strong wind to carry away the hungry locusts, Pharaoh's heart once more turned against God.

Then God sent a plague of thick darkness to cover Egypt; there was no light for three days. But Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go.

I will send one more plague, God warned. About midnight, all the firstborn of man and beast will die.

At last, the day came when God would lead his people out of Egypt. "Tonight," Moses told the Israelites, God has promised to show mercy to us because we belong to him. He has given us a way to save our children.

You must kill the best lamb.

and put its blood on your doorframe, and the Lord will pass over your house when he sees the blood of the Iamb.

The Israelites obeyed God. Each father killed a lamb and smeared the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe of his house. Each mother roasted the lamb over the coals of an open fire. Then each family ate their meal together.

At midnight, the Lord passed over the land. He struck down the firstborn in the Egyptian households, but he spared the Israelites. At least one person had died in every Egyptian house.

On that terrible night, Pharaoh finally gave in. "Go," he told Moses and Aaron, "take your people, your flocks and herds. Go and worship the Lord as you have asked."

Then the great number of Israelites started out on the journey to the Promised Land, with Moses and Aaron leading the way.

How great our God is! He not only punishes those who disobey Him, He also shows mercy to His people. God had not forgotten His promises to the Israelites. He was leading them out of slavery and on to the Promised Land, just as He said He would. Our merciful God always keeps His promises. We can trust Him to do what he says.

Conclusion God delivered His people from the ten plagues. God cares for us in the same way since we are His people now and we believe in Him. He is so powerful that He can do anything to protect us and make us free. The Egyptians were punished because they did not listen to God s words and request to let His people go to pray and serve Him.

Movie Clip Show a short movie clip about the story, if available.
