TRUTHFULNESS vs. Deception Earning future trust by accurately reporting past facts Ephesians 4:25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.

ALERTNESS vs. Unawareness Being aware of that which is taking place around me so that I can have the right responses. Mark 14:38 Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak

SELF-CONTROL vs. Self-Indulgence Instant obedience to the initial promptings of God s Spirit. Galatians 5:24-25 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit s leading in every part of our lives.

WISDOM vs. Natural Inclinations Seeing and responding to life situations from God s frame of reference. Proverbs 9:10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

RESOURCEFULNESS vs. Wastefulness Wise use of that which others would normally overlook or discard. Luke 16:10 If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won t be honest with greater responsibilities.

ORDERLINESS vs. Disorganization Preparing myself and my surroundings so that I will achieve the greatest efficiency. I Corinthians 14:40 But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.

ATTENTIVENESS vs. Unconcern Showing the worth of a person by giving individual attention to his words and emotions. Hebrews 2:1 So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.

OBEDIENCE vs. Willfulness Freedom to be creative under the protection of divinely appointed authority II Corinthians 10:5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

HOSPITALITY vs. Loneliness Cheerfully sharing food, shelter, and spiritual refreshment with those God brings into my life. Hebrews 13:2 Don t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

REVERENCE vs. Disrespect Awareness of how God is working through the people and events in my life to produce the character of Christ in me. Proverbs 23: 17-18 Don t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed.

DISCERNMENT vs. Judgment The God-given ability to understand why things happen. I Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Don t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

THRIFTINESS vs. Extravagance Not letting myself or others spend that which is not necessary. Luke 16:11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?

INITIATIVE vs. Unresponsiveness Recognizing and doing what needs to be done before I am asked to do it. Romans 12:21 Don t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

SENSITIVITY vs. Callousness Exercising my senses so that I can perceive the true spirit and emotions of those around me. Romans 12:15 Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.

SINCERITY vs. Hypocrisy Eagerness to do what is right with transparent motives 1 Peter 1:22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.

GENEROSITY vs. Stinginess Realizing that all I have belongs to God and using it for His purposes II Corinthians 9:6 Remember this a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.

DILIGENCE vs. Slothfulness Visualizing each task as a special assignment from the Lord and using all my energies to accomplish it Colossians 3:23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

FAITH vs. Presumption Visualizing what God intends to do in a given situation and acting in harmony with it Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

CONTENTMENT vs. Covetousness Realizing that God has provided everything that I need for my present happiness I Timothy 6:8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

RESPONSIBILITY vs. Unreliability Knowing and doing what both God and others are expecting me to do Romans 14:12 Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.

JUSTICE vs. Fairness Personal responsibility to God s unchanging laws Micah 6:8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

VIRTUE vs. Impurity The moral excellence and purity of spirit that radiate from my life as I obey God s word II Peter 1:5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge.

JOYFULNESS vs. Self-pity The spontaneous enthusiasm of my spirit when my soul is in fellowship with the Lord Psalm 16:11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

THOROUGHNESS vs. Incompleteness Knowing what factors will diminish the effectiveness of my work or words if neglected Proverbs 18:15 Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.

DISCRETION vs. Simple-mindedness The ability to avoid words, actions, and attitudes which could result in undesirable consequences Proverbs 22:3 A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

PUNCTUALITY vs. Tardiness Showing high esteem for other people and their time Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

HUMILITY vs. Pride Recognizing that God and others are actually responsible for the achievements in my life James 4:6 But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, God opposes the proud but favors the humble.

COMPASSION vs. Indifference Investing whatever is necessary to heal the hurts of others I John 3:17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion how can God s love be in that person?

BOLDNESS vs. Fearfulness Confidence that what I have to say or do is true and right and just in the sight of God Acts 4:29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.

FLEXIBILITY vs. Resistance Not setting my affections on ideas or plans which could be changed by God or others Colossians 3:2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

DEPENDABILITY vs. Inconsistency Fulfilling what I consented to do even if it means unexpected sacrifice Psalm 15:4 Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the Lord, keep their promises even when it hurts.

LOVE vs. Selfishness Giving to others basic needs without having as my motive personal reward I Corinthians 13:3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn t love others, I would have gained nothing.

TOLERANCE vs. Prejudice Acceptance of others as unique expressions of specific character qualities in varying degrees of maturity Philippians 2:2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

DECISIVENESS vs. Double-Mindedness The ability to finalize difficult decisions based on the will and ways of God James 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

GENTLENESS vs. Harshness Showing personal care and concern in meeting the needs of others I Thessalonians 2:7 As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.

FORGIVENESS vs. Rejection Clearing the record of those who have wronged me and allowing God to love them through me Ephesians 4:32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

AVAILABILITY vs. Self-Centeredness Making my own schedule and priorities secondary to wishes of those I am serving Philippians 2:20-21 I have no one else like Timothy, who genuinely cares about your welfare. All the others care only for themselves and not for what matters to Jesus Christ.

SECURITY vs. Anxiety Structuring my life around that which is eternal and cannot be destroyed or taken away John 6:27 But don t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.

CREATIVITY vs. Under-Achievement Approaching a need, a task, an idea from a new perspective Romans 12:2 Don t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

CAUTIOUSNESS vs. Rashness Knowing how important right timing is in accomplishing right actions Proverbs 19:2 Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.

DETERMINATION vs. Faint-Heartedness Purposing to Accomplish God s goals in God s timing regardless of the opposition II Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.

DEFERENCE vs. Rudeness Limiting my freedom in order not to offend the tastes of those God has called me to serve Romans 14:21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble.

PERSUASIVENESS vs. Contentiousness Guiding vital truth around another s mental roadblocks II Timothy 2:24 A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.

ENDURANCE vs. Giving-Up The inward strength to withstand stress to accomplish God s best Galatians 6:9 So let s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don t give up.

PATIENCE vs. Restlessness Accepting a difficult situation from God without giving Him a deadline to remove it Romans 5:3-4 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.

ENTHUSIASM vs. Apathy Expressing with my spirit the joy of my soul I Thessalonians 5:16,19 Always be joyful Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.

GRATEFULNESS vs. Unthankfulness Making known to God and others in what ways they have benefited my life I Corinthians 4:7 For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

LOYALTY vs. Unfaithfulness Using difficult times to demonstrate my commitment to God and to those whom He has called me to serve John 15:13 There is no greater love than to lay down one s life for one s friends.

MEEKNESS vs. Anger Yielding my personal rights and expectations to God Psalm 62:5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
