Spiritual Directors - Association of the Miraculous Medal B (breakfast) D (dinner) Friday, March 15- We depart from Newark Airport on a United Airlines flight at 7:05 PM for an overnight flight to Barcelona. Dinner and breakfast served aboard. Saturday, March 16 - This morning we arrive in the Catalonian capital of Barcelona. This city on the shores of the Mediterranean was a founding Roman colony from the second century B.C. An English-speaking Tour Manager meets us and takes us to the hotel for check in. We have time at leisure for rest or exploring on our own. Don't miss a stroll on Las Ramblas, where everyone walks in the evening. We enjoy dinner together at our hotel this evening. B & D Barcelona Sunday, March 17 - This morning we celebrate Holy Mass in Barcelona and then we tour the city. Our guide takes us to the imposing unfinished church of La Sagrada Familia. We will see the Columbus Monument, Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, and then will be shown a panoramic view of the city and harbor from Monjuich Hill. This afternoon is free for shopping and exploring on our own. We dine together this evening. B & D Barcelona Monday, March 18 - This morning we travel west and stop in Zaragoza, so that we can visit the Shrine of Our Lady of the Pillar. The shrine commemorates the appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. James the Apostle before her Assumption into Heaven. St. James received encouragement from Our Lady as he strove to spread the Good News throughout the Iberian Peninsula. She presented to him a small wooden statue of herself on top of a jasper column. Therefore, the title, Our Lady of the Pillar. He built a chapel around the statue and pillar, thereby making it the first church devoted to the Virgin Mary in the whole of Christendom. Our Mass will be celebrated in the beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We check in to our hotel and have dinner together. B & D Zaragoza Tuesday, March 19 - We continue on west to reach Madrid, the country's capital. Upon arrival we celebrate Holy Mass at the noon hour in the Almudena Cathedral. We take time for lunch on our own, and then we take in a panoramic tour of Madrid with its great squares, Neptuno and Cibeles fountains, Gran via and Paseo de la Castellana. Our main objective is a visit of one of the greatest art galleries in the world, the Museo del Prado. The tour will concentrate on the Spanish School of painters - Valazques, Murillo, Goya and others. Late this afternoon we check in at our hotel for dinner and overnight. B & D Madrid
Wednesday, March 20 - We travel just north of Madrid to Segovia. This morning a guide will give us a tour of the fantasy world royal castle, EI Alcazar and later will show us the "Great Dame of Spanish Cathedrals," a Gothic masterpiece of Segovia. St. John of the Cross is buried in a Carmelite convent here. We will celebrate our Mass at his tomb. We can marvel at the city landmark, a 2,000 year old Roman Aquaduct, an awesome construction of perfectly laid stones in a mile long series of arches, one of the most brilliant architectural feats on the continent. Traveling a short distance further, we reach Avila and check in to our hotel within the walled city. B & DAvila Thursday, March 21- In Avila we visit the Convent ofthe Incarnation, where the great Carmelite saint, St. Teresa, began her religious life. In this convent in 1559, she experienced the Transverberation of her heart, beginning her reform and spreading of the Carmelite spirit. We celebrate Holy Mass here. Our guided tour will help us to "see" St. Teresa in every corner of this impressive city encircled by the well-preserved 11th century walls. We will visit the convent of S1. Teresa, built on the site of her family house, and another convent where she produced many of her holy writings, which merited for her the rare title of Doctor of the Church. This afternoon we will have time to explore fascinating Avila and have some leisure time. B & DAvila Friday, March 22 - After our celebration of Holy Mass we travel from Spain into Portugal. First we stop in the great university city of Salamanca. Countless famous people have attended this university in its 700 year history, including S1.John of the Cross. S1.Ignatius lived for a while in a Carmelite monastery here. Salamanca has two cathedrals. You enter the old one through the new one. The most spectacular feature of the old cathedral is the retablo on the high altar, which consists of 53 different paintings of the life of Christ by l S'" century artist, icolas Florentino. Our drive into Portugal takes us through another university town called Coimbra, and then on to Fatima. In 1917 the Blessed Mother appeared to three shepherd children, Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, revealing to them the messages of prayer and penance for conversion and peace in the world. We have dinner in our hotel. B & D Fatima Saturday, March 23 - This morning we celebrate Holy Mass in a Chapel of the Basilica of Our Lady. Then we travel to the nearby seacoast and to Nazare, the most famous and picturesque fishing village of Portugal. In the fourth century a monk carried from Jerusalem a statue of the Blessed Virgin. This revered statue is enshrined in the Church of Our Lady, and is carried in procession to the sea every September, as the fishermen seek her blessings on their work. On the way back to Fatima we stop at the Abbey Church in Batalha, one of Europe's greatest Gothic masterpieces. In Fatima shops are plentiful for the purchase of religious objects. Dinner tonight will be in our hotel. The traditional Candlelight Procession and Rosary will take place this evening. B & D Fatima
Sunday. March 24 - This morning we will join the great assembly of people in the main square in front of the Basilica to celebrate Palm Sunday Mass. After Mass we can have some devout time spent in the Chapel of Apparitions, built on the very site of the Apparitions. We will visit the Basilica and tombs of the newly proclaimed blessed: Jacinta and Francisco. Later we go to nearby Aljustrel and enter the homes of the three children. Also we will see where an angel appeared and gave them Holy Communion. There is time for devotions: the Way of the Cross, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the evening rosary. At our dinner tonight we bid farewell to a beautiful journey together. B & D Fatima Monday, March 25 - We go to the Lisbon airport, just a little over an hour south from Fatima, to start the journey to Newark, arriving there at 1:32 PM. Pilgrimage to Spain and Fatima - March 15-25, 2013 - Association of the Miraculous Medal GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS RESERVATIONS AND PAYMENT: Travel Tyme requires a deposit of $400 per person that is to be sent with the application at the time of booking. This deposit forms a part of your final payment, which must be received by us no later than 65 days prior to departure. Seats are limited on this Pilgrimage, so we suggest an early booking. CANCELLATIONS: Pleasemake all cancellations in writing. The following cancellation charges apply: If cancelled 120 days or more prior to departure, a $75 administration fee is charged. If cancelled 119-61 days prior, $300 penalty will be charged. If cancelled 60-15 days prior, $500 penalty will be charged.
