Committed to His Will, His Way, and His Word 2014 Theme The Year of Increase Our Vision Statement "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery o f sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. From the Pastor's Desk : During this year of increase we are thanking God for spiritual growth in our lives. Spiritual growth is more of Christ being expressed through less of you. As you seek to grow remember the words of the Apostle Paul, "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). Keep pressing and thanking God for the increase in your life! Pastor Thompson Church School & New Members Class 8:30 AM Morning 10:00 AM

MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT Pentecost June 8 August 30, 2014 PENTECOST, the fiftieth day after Easter, comes from the Greek word for fiftieth, pentekoste. Greek-speaking Jews called the Jewish Feast of Weeks the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2 tells how the anxious and fearful disciples, who had gathered on the Day of Pentecost, were filled with the Holy Spirit and thereafter preached boldly the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the day on which the church received the Holy Spirit. COLORS FOR PENTECOST: RED OR RED ON WHITE. RED, THE COLOR OF FIRE, REPRESENTS THE HOLY SPIRIT. Theme For This Quarter: THE PEOPLE OF GOD SET PRIORITIES This quarter has three units. The first unit is from the book of Haggai in the Hebrew Scriptures and involves a call to community through the rebuilding of the temple. The second and third units are form the letters of through the believers. NEXT WEEK S LESSON: July 20, 2014 OVERCOMING TEMPTATION 1 Corinthians 10:9-22 The pride of people and communities can lead them to act in harmful ways. Paul reminded the Corinthians that all believers are tempted, but God will not let them be tested beyond their strength He will provide the way out. HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 2 * MONDAY: Turning Aside from God s Commands Exodus 32:1-10 * TUESDAY: Turning Away from Following God Deuteronomy 7:1-6 * WEDNESDAY: Putting the Lord to the Test Acts 5:1-11 * THURSDAY: Search with Heart and Soul Deuteronomy 4:25-31 * FRIDAY: Holding Firm to the End Hebrew 3:7-14 * SATURDAY: Examples that Deter from Evil 1 Corinthians 10:1-8 * SUNDAY: God s Faithfulness in Our Testing 1 Corinthians 10:9-22 Sermon Highlights: July 6, 2014 Title: A Declaration of Independence Text: Psalm 27:1-3 Main Idea: David declared his independence from some troubling circumstances in his life. David was free but: Points: 1) He wasn t foolish. 2) He didn t follow his flesh. 3) He didn t forget about faith. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. CDs $5.00; Double CDs $7.00 ; VHS $15.00; DVDs $12.00 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life!

MOUNT OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH HENRICO COUNTY HISTORIC SIGNAGE The County of Henrico offers a Historic Signage Program to inform the public that a particular structure or site is an important historic element of the community. Organized in 1867 as the first African American church in the Yellow Tavern community, Mt. Olive Baptist church is qualified to establish a Henrico County roadside marker. The double-sided roadside marker will include the County seal and a history of Mt. Olive Baptist Church on both sides of the marker. This marker will be placed on Mountain Road. The second marker will give a brief history of Mt. Olive and will be placed on the 1.18 acres of the site of the original church, the brush arbor. HENRICO COUNTY ROADSIDE MARKER County seal with church name. A history of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. The project will ensure that Mt. Olive Baptist Church will have a permanent place in the history of Henrico County. The signage will have corresponding research on file with the Historic Preservation and Museum Services Library/Archives. The cost of this project is approximately $2800.00. The Church is requesting financial donations from our congregants to support this project.
