SCRIPTURE Luke 12: 13-21 (NKJV) The Parable of the Rich Fool 13 Then one from the crowd said to Him, Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me. 14 But He said to him, Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you? 15 And He said to them, Take heed and beware of covetousness, [a] for one s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. 16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops? 18 So he said, I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided? 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. 4
RESPONSIVE READING Proverbs 23: 1-9 (NKJV) LEADER: CONG: LEADER: CONG: LEADER: ALL: When you sit down to eat with a ruler, Consider carefully what is before you; And put a knife to your throat If you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, For they are deceptive food. Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven. Do not eat the bread of a miser, Nor desire his delicacies; For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Eat and drink! he says to you, But his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, And waste your pleasant words. Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words. 5
WE LL UNDERSTAND IT BETTER BY AND BY We are often tossed and driv n on the restless sea of time, Sombre skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine, In that land of perfect day, when the mists have rolled away, We will understand it better by and by. CHORUS By and by when the morning comes, When the saints of God are gathered home, We ll tell the story how we ve overcome; For we ll understand it better by and by. We are often destitute of the things that life demands, Want of food and want of shelter thirsty hills and barren lands, We are trusting in the Lord, and according to His word, We will understand it better by and by. Trials dark on every hand, and we cannot understand, All the ways that God would lead us to that blessed Promised Land; But He guides with His eye and we ll follow till we die. For we ll understand it better by and by. Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares, And our hearts are made to bleed for many a thoughtless word or deed, And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best. But we ll understand it better by and by. 6
The tenth shall be holy unto the Lord. Leviticus 27:32 Every Christian should strive to learn how to be a cheerful giver. When we give what does it actually mean? It simply means we, cheerfully give to God our tithes and offerings. Tithing honors God. Are you giving the Lord His tithes or your tips? The word tithe means to give back to God one tenth of your earnings for the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world.
