with passion and with joy the truth of the Resurrection of our Savior! From Donnie s Desk; The final week in the physical life of Jesus on this earth was anything but idyllic. It was chaos. It was a full blown tempest. It was a roller coaster of events and emotions as Jesus and His followers walked that final journey toward the cross. What began with enthusiastic crowds shouting and laying palm fronds at His feet ended with a decidedly less enthusiastic crowd shouting for His crucifixion. That week included powerful moments, intimate moments with those closest to Him, horrific moments of betrayal, terrifying moments of sheer brutality and the finality of a cross. Or so those watching thought. The beauty and the majesty of Easter isn t the crowds or crowns or even the cross. The beauty and the wonder and the majesty of Easter is this truth The cross doesn t have the final say! Death is not the end! Easter declares for all to see that the power of God is greater than the greatest enemy death itself! Easter declares that Death is real But death is not the end Because Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life!!! That is what we will celebrate this month as we focus on the Passion of Christ, the final journey of Christ to the cross. And on Easter Sunday we will celebrate with abandon and I m looking forward to this season here at HSBC! There is so much going on and so many things to celebrate and participate in! Here are just a few of them Wednesday night March 14 we will here from Lynne Kennedy, a former IMB missionary as she shares about the efforts being made to carry the gospel to all the world. Friday and Saturday March 23-24 we have the privilege of presenting The Day He Wore My Crown at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. The choir, composed of the HSBC choir and others as well as members of Mountain Voices will perform the music under the direction of our very own Kathi Graham. The drama will be performed by the Overlook Theater Company. It is going to be an amazing two nights of worship and presenting the Easter story. Sunday March 25 is Palm Sunday and it will be a powerful day of focusing on the cross of Christ. Wednesday night March 28 we will gather for a solemn assembly, an evening of reflecting on the final Passover Jesus shared with the disciples. Good Friday, March 30 we will partner with area churches for a Good Friday service at noon at First United Methodist. And Easter Sunday is going to be a GREAT day of celebration! It begins with our Sunrise Service downtown followed by Breakfast at the church. Easter Worship will begin at 10:30 and we will celebrate the Greatest Day in History! I can t wait! Sharon and I love y all! Hang on! God is on the move! Blessings Donnie
On Wednesday Nights, March 7th 21st, we will be diving into the series HATERS, a series about judging others. We all have a tendency to judge and hate on others, but we often make those calls without all the facts. In other words, we can t see the big picture. If we could, it d probably be a lot easier to move from hating to understanding. Maybe that s why the Bible makes it clear that when it comes to judgment, that call is God s to make. March 7: Drop the rock. March 14: Assume the best, and trust God with the rest. March 21: Even when you fail, He s for you See you at 6:00 PM on Wednesday Nights!
