3. Optional- Dead Sea Region Tour - Thursday, January 5 th, 2017 *Registration required 08:30 Depart Tel Aviv 11:00 Masada Masada is located on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea. It is an ancient fortress built on an isolated rock plateau, the royal citadel of King Herod the Great and the last post of the zealots at the time of the Great Revolt against the Romans between 66-73 CE. The most famous story about Masada is of course the story of the Great Revolt, the First Jewish Roman War, when after the Jewish warriors lost all hope of victory against the Romans, just before Masada would fall into Roman hands, the leader of the rebels, Eliezer ben Ya'ir, managed to convince those under Roman siege to commit mass suicide rather than fall into Roman captivity. 12:30 Swim in the Dead Sea Swim in the Dead Sea 14:00 Lunch at Kalia Beach
14:30 Qumran Qumran is an archaeological site in the West Bank. It is located on a dry plateau about a mile inland from the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea, near the Israeli settlement and Kibbutz Kalia. The Hellenistic period settlement was constructed during the reign of John Hyrcanus, circa 134-104 BCE, and was settled until it was destroyed by the Romans around 68 CE. It is best known as the settlement nearest to the caves in which the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden and discovered in the 1940s. 16:00 Qasr el Yahud Qasr el Yahud is a baptism site in the Jordan River Valley in the West Bank. It is the traditional spot where the New Testament narrative of the baptism of Jesus took place (Matthew 3:13-17). According to tradition, it is also the place where the Israelites crossed over the Jordan River and Elijah the Prophet ascended to heaven. 17:00 Depart to Tel Aviv Cost per person (minimum 10 pax) 200 In order to proceed to payment please CLICK HERE Cancellation: A. Amendment Not included in the package are the following: Airfare, items of a personal nature, laundry, insurance, including travel and health insurances, local health services, any add-ons, guest speakers, any extras for guests, any activity in rooms at hotels, extras charged to rooms at hotels, and any other services not specifically mentioned. We strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance. We understand that there can be on occasion circumstances connected to the security situation in Israel which would reasonably preclude the delivery of the contracted services. In such circumstances, the problems may be of a localized nature, and it may be very possible to deliver a very reasonable program with the same type of services in other areas of the country. Alternatively, on rare occasions there may be a situation in which it would be unreasonable to have a tour of Israel at that time, and where normal tourism will come to a halt. To be clear, we are referring to situation of war or of a dramatic and extreme change which would reasonably affect the safety of tourists visiting Israel. In such circumstances, we will do all in our ability to keep cancellation charges to a minimum, and leave in place only those charges which are unrecoverable. To avoid misunderstanding, in all cases the initial non-refundable deposit will remain non-refundable, as it goes to cover the outlay of expenses incurred in the preparation of the program to that point. It has been the case in the past when such situations have occurred, that most suppliers in Israel have been understanding and have not imposed the full amount of penalties that would have been legitimate according to our agreements. Rarely have non-refundable amounts exceeded 15% of the total package, although the amount can be either more or less.
