Dear Faithful, As you know over the summer months I ve been able to visit St. Francis de Sales Oratory on more than a few occasions. During my visits as the US Provincial Bursar of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, I ve been working closely with the accounting office of the Oratory for the budget of the 2012-2013 fiscal year. As part of the new budget, you will notice a modification in the Stewardship box located in the bulletin. The new stewardship goal reflects the needs of the Oratory for operation. In the past it reflected both the operation and the restoration of the church. Since these are two distinct things, it has been deemed more fitting to exclude the restoration from the weekly collection goal, and hence a lower goal. I would like to personally thank each of you for your continued prayers, and financial support of the work of the Institute here in Saint Louis. For without those two very important elements none of this would be possible. Please be assured of my faithful prayers, and best wishes for you and your families during this new year, I remain sincerely yours in Christ the King, Canon Denis Buchholz THE INSTITUTE INVITES YOU ON A PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES AND FRANCE In honor of the Year of Faith, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest invites you to participate in the pilgrimage organized by the Institute in Lourdes, France, April 9-20, 2013. FROM THE VICARS DESK Even though we are still in an extension of Christmastide, the sweet Christmas season seems to be over. But we should not be idle. We are invited to grow in the life of grace as children of God. Where there is a child, there is also a mother. Within the family of the Church, we have the Immaculate Mary as our Mother. When she consented to become the Mother of Jesus, Mary bound herself by very close bonds to Jesus' work. Today's Gospel tells us about Jesus' first miracle. For the first time, we see the Blessed Mother in her maternal function as Mediatrix of all graces. The Cana miracle was worked precisely because of her intercession which was so powerful that it made Jesus anticipate His hour. She says to the servant. "Whatsoever He shall say to you, do ye." Her humility, consideration for others, faith, and trustful abandonment win Jesus, and to show us the greatness of her power over His Divine Heart. Jesus grants her wish. Her power of intercession is great. And she has been continuously working to glorify God the Father and sanctify the people of God. We have so good Mother. So let us learn how to open our hearts and count on Her Mercy as Her children. - Canon Raphael Ueda Oratory Email Newsletter To receive our Newsletter, please send your request to: sfds@institute-christ-king.org 5 ST. TO ALL OUR GUESTS... Canon Wiener and the faithful of St. Francis de Sales Oratory welcome you, and hope that your time in the Cathedral of South St. Louis may be an opportunity to share in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Faith. Please enjoy the beauty of this building dedicated to St. Francis de Sales, co-patron of the INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST. According to the liturgical tradition, and the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, Holy Communion is received kneeling and on the tongue. All visitors who are not of the Catholic faith are welcome to join us in prayer, but are requested not to receive Holy Communion. Because the reception of Holy Communion is the sign of Divine and Ecclesial unity, only practicing Catholics who are free of mortal sin, and in full communion with the Catholic Church should present themselves for Holy Communion. We pray for the full visible unity among all Christians. To receive more information about the Oratory please fill out a contact card available at the entrance of the church. If you desire to become a member of the Catholic Church, contact the rectory.
