Welcome We are very glad to have you worshipping our gracious God with us today. To Our Guests, We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available in our Welcome Center, located through the doorway to the right of the high pulpit. You can also visit our website at firstpresaugusta.org. Children s Worship We offer a specially designed program for children in pre-k through fourth grade during the morning services. A leader will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Parents of children in pre-k through second grade are asked to pick up their children following Sunday School or the 11 a.m. worship service. Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We also provide a Mother/Infant Room equipped with audio located beside Nursery 1. Ushers are available to direct you. Spiritual Care If you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder will be standing next to the pastor following the service. Greeters These elders welcomed you as you entered the services today: Jim Clark, Bill McCartney, Gary Beaudreau, Jim Carroll... 8:30 a.m. Eric Chou, Cliff Eckles, Sylvester Brown Jim Scarbrough... 11:00 a.m. Ron Jeffcoat, Jim Bodden, Sean Lynch, Dale Martin... 6:30 p.m. Prayer During the Services Each Sunday people gather in the Telfair Room during the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services to pray for the service, the pastor as he preaches and for those worshipping. All are welcome to participate. This week the prayer sessions will be hosted and led by the Single Adult Class at 8:30 a.m. and the College Class at 11 a.m. As stewards of God s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service. 2

The Morning Service Theme: Faith v. Bitterness ( Indicates the congregation standing) The Prelude - My Song is Love Unknown...Ireland Chancel Choir; Katie Gothel, flute; Hwangbin Choi, piano My song is love unknown, my Savior s love to me, Love to the loveless shown, that they might lovely be. O who am I, that for my sake my Lord should take frail flesh and die? He came from his blest throne, salvation to bestow; But man cared not, and none the longed for Christ would know. But O, my Friend, my Friend indeed, who at my need his life did spend. Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine; Never was love, dear King, never was grief like thine. This is my friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend. Welcome & Announcements...Rev. Mike Hearon The Peace The Call to Worship... Psalm 95 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving And extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; For he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us worship God! 3

The Hymn of Praise - All Creatures of Our God and King...Lasst Uns Erfreuen (Verses 1-3) St. Francis of Assissi, 1225 Geistliche Kirchengesange, Cologne, 1623 4

The Invocation (Please lift hands) The Confession of Faith... Heidelberg Catechism, Question 28 Q. What advantage is it to us to know that God has created, and by his providence does still uphold all things? A. That we may be patient in adversity; thankful in prosperity; and that in all things, which may hereafter befall us, we place our firm trust in our faithful God and Father, that nothing shall separate us from his love; since all creatures are so in his hand, that without his will they cannot so much as move. Gloria Patri (Sung by All)...Greatorex Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. The New Testament Lesson... Hebrews 12:14-24 page 1877 in the pew Bible The Response The grass withers and the flowers fall, But the Word of our God stands forever. The Personal Confession of Sin The Confession of Sin (Please kneel if able to do so) Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, whose face is hidden from us by our sins, and whose mercy we forget in the blindness of our hearts: cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires, that with reverent and humble hearts we may draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength; through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen. The Assurance of Pardoning Grace... Joel 2:12-13 Even now, declares the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. 5

Doxology - To God the Father...Duke Street The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. The Offering* (Please take a moment to sign the attendance register.) The Offertory - I Will Lift up My Eyes... Hayes I will lift my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. My hope is in the Lord. He will not let you stumble. He will not let you fall. The One who watches over you neither slumbers nor sleeps at all. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm. He will keep you, he will guard your life. (from Psalm 121: 1-8) *Online giving is available at firstpresaugusta.org and at the giving kiosk in the Narthex. 6

Offertory - It is Well with My Soul... Spafford Amy Patton When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. It is well with my soul, It is well, it is well with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed his own blood for my soul. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul. And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul.
