ST PAUL CATHOLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Principal Mr. J. Vandenbosch Superintendent Mr. C. Ciapanna Trustees Mrs. M. Nardini & Mr. P. DiFrancesco Pastor Father David Wilhelm Our Lady of the Assumption Feeder High School - Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School Catholic Education: Renewing the Promise Theme for Catholic Education Week 2018 M essage from the Principal This year s Catholic Education Week theme is Renewing the Promise. The theme for CEW 2018 draws upon previous documents on Ontario Catholic education, namely, This Moment of Promise (1989), Fulfilling the Promise (1993) and Our Catholic Schools (2006-2007). These three documents, while several years apart from each other, all speak of the unique mission of Ontario Catholic education, the importance of its shared leadership by all those involved in Catholic education and the critical role of Catholic education in contemporary society. Catholic Education Week 2018 combines the themes of reconciliation, solidarity, love, justice and ecology. There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week: Day 1: Day 2: Day 3: Day 4: Day 5: Remembering the Promise The Promise is Within You Praying the Promise Living the Promise Proclaiming the Promise Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a resource kit to help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week. Using these resources as well as our own developed activities, we have prepared a series of activities which will highlight how our school is Renewing the Promise. We hope to see many of you during our school celebrations. ST. PAUL OF TARSUS St Paul was born at Tarsus in Cilicia a few years after the birth of Christ. A tent maker by trade, the well educated Saul bitterly persecuted the Christian Jews. Saul, following an encounter with the Lord on the road to Damascus, became a Christian a follower of Jesus. After being baptized, Paul zealously began a life of prayer and travel to bring the good news of Jesus to many people. After some 30 years of missionary work, he was taken as a prisoner to be tried before Caesar. After his first trial, he was released for a while, but was again arrested, condemned to death and was beheaded in the year 67 A.D. St. Paul s main message was that both Jews and Gentiles (non- Jewish people), through faith and acceptance of the gospel, could enter into eternal life with the Risen Christ. During St. Paul s lifetime, and as a result of his work, Jesus disciples turned their energies to the worldwide missions of bringing the good news of Jesus to all people. FEAST DAYS OF ST. PAUL January 25 th Celebration of his Conversion June 29 th Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul MISSION STATEMENT At St. Paul School, Catholic values and the traditions of our Catholic faith are central to our lives. As apostles of Christ, we spread the message of Jesus Christ by acting as contributors to society through prayer and service to the global community. VISION At St. Paul CES, each member of our school community is valued. We respect ourselves, each other, and everyone that we come in contact with. In this atmosphere of respect, we strive for personal excellence. Our catholic beliefs permeate every aspect of our lives. OUR SCHOOL PRAYER Dear St. Paul, Bless us and guide us each day. May the light of your love for Jesus show us the way to love others. Help us to believe in ourselves and achieve our goals, protect us from wrong choices so that we may be an example for others, and carry the gospel in all that we say and do. PRAYER FOR MOTHERS Good and Gentle God, we pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all the women who have joined with you in the wonder of bringing forth new life. You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings. Amen.
