Mr. Carl LaFleur, Retired Deacon Mrs. Jennifer O Connor, Parish Secretary Ms. Alice Duffy, Campus Manager Mrs. Diana Huff, Parish Accountant Mr. Bruce Coon, Music Director Mrs. Ellie Cote, Marriage Coordinator Ms. Pamela Salimeno, Religious Education Director Watch Hill Chapel June 28 through August 30 Sunday Mass will be at 8:30 AM and celebrated by Fr. Kenneth J. Suibielski New Parking Directions for the Watch Hill Chapel Parking Lot Beginning June 21, drivers will be directed to enter the parking lot from the south end where a new gate has been installed. Cars should easily be able to pull into the lot through the gate on Sunday mornings and park as usual. Then leave the lot via the marked exit at the north end of the parking lot. This was tried a few times last summer, but the entry proved to be too tight. That prior problem has now been remedied with a new gate and smoothed apron. Please also notice that the new exit has a mechanical arm across it which will automatically lift as a car approaches from inside the lot. Otherwise, the arm will be down, and thus blocking the point of access. The reason for changing the direction is to simplify the parking ingress and egress, making it more efficient and easier to enter and exit the lot. The new gate will also help deter illegal beach parking. Should access to the parking lot be needed in addition to Sunday services, an entrance code will be issued which will need to be entered into the keypad that will be beside the entrance gate. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. The ministry meets the Third Wednesday of every month at 8:30, May through December in the Parish Center. The Rosary for life will be postponed through the winter months. The Hospitality Ministry provides a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere for members of the St. Clare community and visitors, as well as new parishioners, to meet and interact with one another in a positive way. Meetings take place the first Thursday of every month at 8:30 AM in the Parish Center. All are welcome. The next meeting will be on July 9. The dates next summer are August 31 to September 11. To date, 17 travelers are booked, including Father Ken. They will travel in France to Burgundy, Beaujolais and Provence. Flyers about the trip are available in the church office. Call Judie Freeman at 322-9067 if there are any questions or if any help is needed in booking your trip. St. Pius X School Pre-Kindergarten for ages 3 & 4 The St. Pius X School Pre-Kindergarten program offers the best of both worlds, the RI Early Learning Standards and the Diocese of Providence pre-kindergarten guidelines. It is more than just a day care, and generally less expensive. The young students get hands-on experience in a center-based environment housed in our new wing. In addition to classroom instruction and interpersonal skill training, our students receive music and art instruction from our specials teachers, as well as library time. They also learn drama by performing at our assemblies. Students experience community service by visiting our neighboring nursing home, bringing smiles to the elderly through their companionship and song. For a tour, please call principal Henry Fiore at 596-5735. Wedding Blessing A wedding celebrated in the Eastern Church has a form that was fixed a thousand years ago. In the West, our story is more complicated by constant change and variation. As the world s structures tottered in the ninth century, bishops and priests stepped into the void left by collapsing civil structures. For the first time, marriage was referred to as a sacrament, and wedding ceremonies were to be in public (assuring the free consent of the bride) after an investigation of the couple by a priest. The custom of the blessing of the bridal room diminished, and was finally forbidden in 1012 by the Council of Rouen, although it continued for centuries. In the diocese of Perigueux in France, a ritual from 1827 had the parish priest clad in surplice and stole sprinkling the bridal couple as they stood modestly in their pajamas by the wedding bed. Next the bed and all those present were sprinkled, too! That s a tradition that few Americans, either the betrothed or the clergy, are ready to revive! Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Monthly Church Cleaning will be Friday, July 3, following the 8 AM Mass.
