Volume XVII No. 9 A Monthly Publication of Hillabee Baptist Church, Alexander City, AL September 2016 Hillabee Baptist Church The Hillabee Herald THE MISSION OF HILLABEE BAPTIST CHURCH IS TO SHARE, SEEK, AND SERVE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. A Word from Your Pastor, Greetings Hillabee Family, Passions from the Pastor I hope everyone has had a great summer and is ready for fall. Excitement is in the air and it is not football! The excitement is about what God is doing at our church! Here are a few things that I would like to remind everyone as we go forward into September. First, I am super excited about our new website. Go to www.hillabeebc.com and check it out! Our good friend Mark Gainey (former pastor at Lake Martin Baptist) helped us with the design and construction of the site. The new website will allow us to distribute sermons and resources for better communication and it is also mobile friendly. Second, I want to remind everyone that the new church calendar year starts in September. A new church year means new teachers and people moving around to new classes. These are new opportunities to grow in the Lord. Starting this year, we have a new format for the children on Wednesday night. RA s and GA s are back and we are super excited about the discipleship of our young children in the Word of God and an emphasis on the importance of spreading God s Word through missions. Also, I would like to thank all of you who made the commitment to serve the Lord in the various ministries at HBC. Your involvement and commitment is critical to the effectiveness and livelihood of HBC. Again, I am excited about what God is doing here at HBC. Please continue to pray for our church and the various ministries that are represented. I want to encourage each person to be evangelistic and invite someone to church and seek out opportunities to share the gospel. The Vision of Hillabee Baptist Church is to intimately experience and then intentionally express the GRACE of Jesus Christ to our community, our country and our world. The Mission of Hillabee Baptist Church is to Share, Seek, and Serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace Always, Bro. Josh Sammons www.hillabeebc.com What s inside? Starting September 7, 2016 @ As The Deer As the deer panteth for the water, So my soul longeth after Thee. You alone are my heart s desire, And I long to worship Thee. You alone are my strength, my shield. To you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart s desire, And I long to worship Thee. ----Martin Nystrom Our fantasies deceive us. They tell us that if everything went our way, we would be satisfied. High pay, a glamorous house, and an exotic vacation all seduce us as worthwhile pursuits. In reality, even with all of that we would still feel empty. That s because quenching the soul s thirst with selfish pleasure is a lot like drinking salt water. The more we do it, the thirstier we become. Jesus said, Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again (John 4:13). Only He can really quench our thirst. He knows that we are broken, thirsty, and needy, panting for refreshing water as a deer pants upon approaching a stream. So Jesus invites us to come and drink His love. When we worship Him, our cravings are met. By giving Him our praise and adoration, we find that our heart s desires are fulfilled. Our worship need not end there. We can stay filled as we live each day by continually giving to God. Every time we yield to Him, we give Him more of ourselves and, in turn, experience more of His love. The world teaches that we feel fulfilled by giving in to ourselves. But only giving in to God brings soul-quenching satisfaction. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. Psalm 42:1 Prayer Ask Jesus to open your eyes when you begin to believe a lie about what will truly satisfy you. Thank Him for quenching your thirst. From: Songs4Worship Daily Devotions Open the Eyes of My Heart GA s: Girls Grades 3 6 RA s: Boys Grades 3-6
