LEWISTOWN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Shining the light of the gospel into the heart of Lewistown since 1785 February 18, 2018 10:30 AM Prelude Fairest Lord Jesus Ashdown Abide with Me Parks Welcome and Announcements Introit Sarabande with Variations G F Handel Call to Worship Psalm 63 Leader: You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. People: I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Leader: Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. People: I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. Leader: I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; People: With singing lips my mouth will praise you. Leader: On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. * Song As the Deer 1. As the deer panteth for the water, So my soul longeth after You. You alone are my heart's desire, And I long to worship You. Chorus: You alone are my strength, my shield; To You alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire, And I long to worship You.

2. You're my friend and You are my brother, Even though You are a king. And I love You more than any other, So much more than anything. 3. I want You more than gold or silver, Only You can satisfy. You alone are the real joy giver, And the apple of my eye. Martin Nystrom, 1981 ~ CCLI#1881909 Unison Prayer of Confession Memorial Drive Merciful God, we have done a lot of running this week, but much of it was not in your direction. We have run in circles because we did not pause to ask Your guidance. We have run in loneliness because we did not run in love for others. We have tripped because the cares of this world captured our attention. We have run with great fatigue because we moved by our own power. Through Your Holy Spirit, show us those things that keep us from running the race marked out for us. Forgive us, Lord. Nourish and instruct us, that we may run in the path of Your commands, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the One who calls us by His Name and claims us by His love. Amen. LENTEN STUDY: Our all-church Lenten study this year is Ruth Haley Barton s Sacred Rhythms. This study is based on the premise that we function best when we establish regular practices that connect us with the flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the world around us. Sacred Rhythms will not only provide an opportunity to learn about spiritual disciplines, but also to practice them. As we learn and experience together, we will be able to discern with the Holy Spirit our individual path of growth with God. Available groups are: Sundays at 9:00 AM led by Pat Brown Sundays at 11:40 AM led by Susan Ferguson and Mary Bull Sundays at 6:00 PM led by Jim and Devon Thomas Tuesdays at 6:30 PM at Ruth and Ken Fisher s Wednesdays at 6:30 AM led by Pastor Thomas Benefitting from Sacred Rhythms is very dependent upon the DVD curriculum which will be shared in our small groups. If you are unable to attend any of these groups, but would like to experience the curriculum, please contact the church office for a copy of the DVD to use in your family or in a group you would like to form. TODAY S SCRIPTURE Psalm 84 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty! 2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young a place near your altar, LORD Almighty, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. 8 Hear my prayer, LORD God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob. 9 Look on our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. 10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. 12 LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
