Welcome To Hillcrest Presbyterian Church ~ 1 ~

A Service For The Worship Of God June 4, 2017 We give thanks that God has called us to worship together. Hymn Sing 3 hymns of your choosing A Word of Welcome and Announcements Affirmation of Faith Apostles Creed I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Hymn: As The Deer As the deer panteth for the water So my soul longeth after Thee You alone are my heart s desire And I long to worship Thee You alone are my strength, my shield To you alone may my spirit yield You alone are my heart s desire And I long to worship Thee You alone are my strength, my shield To you alone may my spirit yield You alone are my heart s desire And I long to worship Thee You re my friend and You are my brother Even though you are a king I love You more than any other So much more than anything I want You more than gold or silver Only You can satisfy You alone are the real joy giver And the apple of my eye You alone are my strength, my shield To you alone may my spirit yield You alone are my heart s desire And I long to worship Thee Call To Confession Leader: God not only desires our repentance, but also longs to offer us forgiveness. Prayer of Confession (in unison) Loving God, we confess that we do not always bring honor and glory to your name. We are rebellious and weak; we flee before your goodness. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us by the grace and mercy of Christ, that we may rise up again in peace to love and serve your world. (Silent Confession) In Christ s name we pray. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Leader: Sisters and brothers, the Spirit of God is resting on us, to restore, support, and strengthen us. Therefore, be at peace in the One who forgives and loves us; rise up and give God thanks. People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God *Gloria Patri: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Prayer Response Hymn #325 Spirit Divine, Attend Our Prayers Spirit divine, attend our prayers, And make this house your home; Descend with all your gracious powers; O come, great Spirit, come! ~ 3 ~

Offering (let us present our Offerings, Tithes and Gifts to the Lord) Prayer of Dedication Offertory *Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heav nly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Special Music Jo Lynne Palmerton Scripture John 7:37-39; Acts 2:1-21 On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, Out of the believer s heart shall flow rivers of living water. Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs in our own languages we hear them speaking about God s deeds of power. All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, What does this mean? But others sneered and said, They are filled with new wine. But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, People of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet ~ 4 ~

Joel: In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Message Pastor, Rev. Jack Cormack Holy Communion All who proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior are invited to participate in the Lord s Supper. Partake of the bread as it is passed and hold the cup until all have been served.
