Call to Worship: Psalm 104 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, you are very great. Bless the LORD, O my soul! You are clothed with honor and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment. Bless the LORD, O my soul! You make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind, Bless the LORD, O my soul! *Hymn: #32 I Sing the Mighty Power of God *Prayer of Adoration *The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
Call to Confession Prayer of Confession Eternal God, we confess that we have failed to seek your will. We try to master your creation but cannot grasp your great design. We want to share the throne of glory but cannot bear the cross of grief. Forgive us, God of grace. Save us from ourselves and give us the humility to trust in you alone; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (silent prayers) Assurance of Pardon *Sung Response: #581 Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost! As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen. PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Prayer for Illumination Old Testament Lesson: Job 38:1-7, 34-41 Page: OT 484
Anthem: "As the Deer" Nystrom/Wilson The Choir As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee. You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship Thee. You're my friend and you are my brother, even though you are a King. I love you more than any other, so much more than anything. You, alone, are my strength, my shield; to you alone, may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship Thee. I want You more than gold or silver, only you can satisfy. You alone are the real joy-giver, and the apple of my eye! A Scripture Conversation Gospel Lesson: Mark 10:35-45 Page: NT 47 Sermon: God of the Questions *Hymn: #22 God of the Sparrow *Affirmation of Faith: The Study Catechism, 17 & 19 God's creation of the world was an act of grace. God granted existence to the world simply in order to bless it. God created the world to reveal God's glory, to share the love and freedom at the heart of God's being, and to give us eternal life in fellowship with God. God created us to live together in love and freedom with God, with one another, and with the world. We are created to be loving companions of others so that something of God's goodness may be reflected in our lives.

Invest in Mission! We Presbyterians are a community of believers. Our historic church has nurtured members and friends for more than 350 years and is committed to serving the needs of others through Mission and Outreach. Each year we are challenged to decide what kind of community we want to be. The time, talent and tithe you give to New Castle Presbyterian Church is vital to continue God's work in our own community and in the world's community. Over $66,000.00 will be invested in Mission for 2016. This money goes in many directions. It supports National and International Presbyterian missions as well as our local ministries such as Emmanuel Dining Hall, Urban Promise, the Port of Wilmington Seaman Center, and Friendship House. It provides "hands-on" opportunities to serve as well as giving others the chance to serve in places where we cannot be. Jesus commands us to "Love thy neighbor as thyself." When confronted by a lawyer who demands, "But who is my neighbor?", Jesus responds with the parable of the Good Samaritan. At the conclusion of the parable, Jesus reminds us that our neighbor is not just the person who looks and acts like us and shares the same values. Our neighbor is anyone who is in need, and we must be the "neighbor" who will reach out to them with love, compassion and commitment. Your pledge is important! Thank you for your support.
Touching Lives Missions Brunch Sunday, October 18 th The Mission and Outreach Committee cordially invites all of our members and friends to brunch today. Our guest speaker will be Kathi Evans, director of the Touching Lives Mission program that is establishing a medical clinic in Kenya. We became involved with this program last year when many of our seamstresses made over 75 dresses for the "Pillowcase Dress Project" supported by The Ten Thousand Villages store in Greenville, DE. Seamen s Center Mission Project I was a stranger and you welcomed me. These are words, spoken and unspoken, every day at the Seamen s Center of Wilmington, Inc. NCPC has the opportunity once again to be part of this wonderful program. We will be one of many groups helping to provide Ditty Boxes to the approximately 1000 seafarers coming in to the Wilmington terminal this Christmas season. This year we hope to be able to provide 50 shoe boxes full of goodies, hand knitted scarves and hats. It is easy to help. Just take a list of needed articles from the poster in the Fellowship Hall and bring them back by November 15 th. All are welcome to help assemble the boxes after church that Sunday. Many of the requested articles are available at the dollar stores. The list is just a guide. We will use everything brought in, except PLEASE NO CHOCOLATE. We like to fill the shoe boxes to the top! Any questions call Ellie Gerhart at 302-328-0908.
Save the Date Spirit of Christmas will be on Saturday, December 12. We still need volunteers for all areas and also need a Chair for the Volunteer Committee. This can t happen without you. Adult Bible Study Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. The Letters of Paul We will study the similarities and differences of the various letters attributed to the Apostle Paul. The geographical, historical, and cultural context of each letter will be examined, that we might hear a fresh word for our day. Urban Promise Banquet Thursday, October 29 at 6:00 pm To register for this fundraiser at the Chase Center, take a "Get the Scoop" post card from the Fellowship Hall bulletin board and sign up online by October 20 or call 302-425- 5502 ext. 115. Cost per person is $50.00. Or sponsor someone else to go! See Janet Spring for further information. The Mission and Outreach Committee is hoping to have a table to represent our congregation.
