KENUTE S DESK Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I will use this medium to seek to answer the question, Isn t Sunday Worship breaking of the Commandments? There are two versions of the Ten Commandments. One is in Exodus 20 and the other in Deuteronomy 5. We need to appreciate three things about these two sets of Ten Commandments. They were written: 1. at different times; 2. for different occasions; and 3. by different people. Basically, both sets of commandments have in it the observance of the Sabbath. 1. In Exodus, the observance of the Sabbath finds its relevance within the context of the Old Creation. 2. In Deuteronomy, the observance of the Sabbath finds it relevance within the context of the Jews leaving Egypt to the promise land. There are two focal points to the Sabbath which are concepts present in the observance of what Christians called The Lord s Day (Sunday). They are 1. Rest and 2. Worship Christians are not people of the Old Covenant but rather people of the New Covenant which is defined through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Two things to note here as Christians: 1. It is not the day that is the Sabbath it s Jesus Come to me all that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. 2. Sunday worship is inspired by the great act of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead to bring into being a new created order. If any man is in Christ He is a new creation, old things are passed away behold all things have become new. Prayer after Communion: All: God of peace, you have nourished us in this sacrament with the body and blood of Christ. May we who have taken holy things keep faith in our hearts and lives, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Presentation of the Baptized: God s Circle of Love In God s circle of love, we hold onto each other; I can see God s love through you. In God s circle of love, we learn to love each other. Each of us is special in God s circle of love. Oh did you know that you are very special? You re so special to us all! Prayer over The Gifts: All: Eternal God, your word inspires our faith. May we who offer you our praise trust you in all things. We ask this in the name Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen. When we cried out to you from captivity, you claimed us as your own. When we forgot our love for you, you did not forget us, sending your prophets to turn us around and renewing your promises with a bow in the sky, the parting of the sea, your own Son. Priest: Thank you for Jesus - for his teaching and healing, his challenging and feeding, his living and dying and rising, that we might be raised with him, and all the world made new. We thank you that on the night before he died he took bread, gave thanks, and broke it, and shared it with his friends, saying, take, eat my body broken for you. Thank you for the way he took the cup, the new covenant sealed in his blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you eat and drink, he said, do it in remembrance of me. With thanksgiving we take this bread and wine, gifts of the good earth, offering ourselves as a living sacrifice dedicated to your service.
