KENUTE S DESK Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I will use this medium to seek to answer the question, Isn t Sunday Worship breaking of the Commandments? There are two versions of the Ten Commandments. One is in Exodus 20 and the other in Deuteronomy 5. We need to appreciate three things about these two sets of Ten Commandments. They were written: 1. at different times; 2. for different occasions; and 3. by different people. Basically, both sets of commandments have in it the observance of the Sabbath. 1. In Exodus, the observance of the Sabbath finds its relevance within the context of the Old Creation. 2. In Deuteronomy, the observance of the Sabbath finds it relevance within the context of the Jews leaving Egypt to the promise land. There are two focal points to the Sabbath which are concepts present in the observance of what Christians called The Lord s Day (Sunday). They are 1. Rest and 2. Worship Christians are not people of the Old Covenant but rather people of the New Covenant which is defined through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Two things to note here as Christians: 1. It is not the day that is the Sabbath it s Jesus Come to me all that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. 2. Sunday worship is inspired by the great act of the resurrection of Jesus from the dead to bring into being a new created order. If any man is in Christ He is a new creation, old things are passed away behold all things have become new.
