Easter Sunday April 1, 2018 Today s flowers are given by Jim and Libby Blake in memory of Amy, Jim, and Elizabeth Adams

Welcome! Easter Sunday April 1, 2018 +8:30 am and +++11:00 am Liturgists: +Dave Shilling +++Sandy Vaughn Greeters: +Emmajo Shearer +++Sue Kelley and Beverly Temple PRELUDE Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds Mark Sedio Heather Cooper, organ INTROIT In Paradisum from Requiem Gabriel Fauré Chancel Choir May angels lead you into Paradise. At your coming may martyrs receive you, and may they lead you into the Holy City, Jerusalem. May the chorus of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, who once was a pauper, may you have eternal rest. SCRIPTURE Matthew 28:1-8 After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.' This is my message for you." So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. The word of God for the people of God Thanks be to God. Alleluia! Alleluia! *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: ALL: This is the Good News The grave is empty, Christ is risen. Hallelujah! Leader: ALL: This is the Good News the light shines in the darkness, And the darkness can never put it out. Hallelujah!

Leader: ALL: This is the Good News Once we were no people, Now we are God s people. Hallelujah! Christ is our peace, the indestructible peace we now share with each other. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Amen! *NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. *HYMN OF INTENTION Christ the Lord is Risen Today

ANTHEM Thine Be the Glory Handel, arr. J. Marty Cope Chancel Choir Harmonia Sacra Brass Heather Cooper, organ SERMON Looking for Jesus Rev. Steve Stultz Costello INVITATION, PRAYER OF CONFESSION, WORDS OF ASSURANCE Pastor: Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another. ALL: Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pastor: Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! ALL: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God. Amen. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING Pastor: The Lord be with you. ALL: And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth... And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ. By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the spirit On the night in which he gave himself up for us he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. ~ Communion will be served by intinction ~ Upon the direction from the ushers please proceed to the front by way of the center aisle; receive the bread, dip it in the cup, and return to your seat by way of the side aisle.
