JANUARY 3, 2016 ST. COLUMBANUS CHURCH_ #481/PAGE 4 CAMP FATIMA & CAMP BERNADETTE I wish to thank everyone who remembered me at Christmas with your generous gifts and cards. As always you are remembered in my prayers and especially at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Today is the Epiphany of our Lord, when Jesus was manifested to the whole world in the persons of the three Magi. It was traditionally celebrated on the 6 th of January, as it still is in the Eastern Church, and is often called Little Christmas. In fact, in the east the Epiphany is a bigger feast than Christmas. We in the west celebrate the Epiphany on the Sunday after the Holy Family, so the date can be as early as January 2 or as late as January 8, depending on what day of the week Christmas falls. There is also ancient tradition that on the Epiphany a proclamation is said or sung proclaiming the dates of the movable feasts of the coming year. Before the changes after Vatican II, the Christmas season would last until the Presentation of the Lord on February 2. Now the Christmas season ends next Sunday with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Regardless, I hope we can carry the spirit of Christmas throughout the new year. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo CHRISTMAS FLOWERS Thanks to everyone who made donations for the Christmas Flowers. Our Churches look beautiful. Camp Fatima for boys and Camp Bernadette for girls are now accepting registrations for the 2016 summer season. The camps, located in the Lakes Region of NH, offer 2-week overnight sessions for children, ages 6-15. Round trip bus transportation is available out of Long Island. To request a brochure and DVD: Contact Michael Drumm Phone: 603-364-5851 Email: mdrumm@campsfatimabernadette.org Web: campsfatimabernadette.org Please don t wait as sessions fill up quickly. ARCHDIOCESAN POLICY REMINDER Anyone who needs to report an alleged incident of sexual abuse of a minor by a priest, deacon, religious, or lay person serving in the Archdiocese of New York is asked to contact Sr. Eileen Clifford, O.P. at 212-371-1000 x2949 or Deacon George J. Coppola at 917-861-1762. Both may also be reached via email at victimassistance@archny.org. Information can also be found on the Archdiocesan website, www.archny.org. In keeping with the Archdiocesan policy regarding sexual abuse of minors, this information is provided to ensure that our children remain safe and secure. FAMILY MASS NEXT SUNDAY We ask that EVERY child and their family preparing to receive First Holy Communion attend Family Mass next Sunday, January 10. Mass is at 10am in St. Columbanus Church.
