O ctober, 2017 V o l um e 1, Iss u e 2 O c t o ber, 2 01 7 L W M L S L C In October we recognize the Lutheran Women in Mission on LWML Sunday, Oct.8. The Ladies of the Mary-Martha Society here at Living Savior are to be commended for their willing mission works which include collecting the monthly Mites deposited in the large Mite box, on the first Sunday of each month. What do these Mites accomplish? Of these donations, about 85% remain in the Texas District and the remainder is sent to our National office. The Texas District Mite Goal selected at the Convention in 2016 iwas$ 362,040, to be distributed by the Summer of 2018 before the next Texas District Convention. At the National Convention this summer, Mission Grants, voted on by delegates, were in the amount of $ 2,075,000! It's amazing what the few pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters a month can do. The ladies of the Mary-Martha Society also collected 100 School Kits and fleece blankets for Lutheran World Relief, which are sent out the week after Easter annually. We continue collecting School Items until after Palm Sunday of next year again. Another key fundraiser we participate in is Breakfast with Santa. We use these proceeds for local Mission work, Seminary Food Banks, Missionaries, and Living Savior s own needs, such as Altar Guild, items for the kitchen, and camperships. The LWML meets on the first Thursday of the month from 10-11 am and welcomes all ladies to join us. On Saturday, October7th, the ladies will meet in Cleveland for the New Horizon Zone Fall Rally. Interested in joining? Contact Helga at 713 502-6219. Page 3 V o lu m e 1, I s s ue 2 M U S I C N OT E S Although our calendars say October, Fall is definitely not in the air yet. With the uncertainty of hurricanes, and all the difficulties being experienced with the aftermath, it brings to mind that we are certainly not in control, and we are thankful for that, as God has control of everything, and His promises are true to be with us through it all. We are grateful our church and members made it through relatively unscathed although we witnessed the power of lots of rain and wind and the sad losses of so much to so many. Through all this turmoil, thoughts of DOUBT have probably crept into the thoughts of thousands..will I have a place to live, a job, food, can I ever recover from this mess of wet sheetrock and nasty water everywhere? The topic for several Sundays this month will be DOUBT.Authority and Authenticity, Confessing Christ in the Face of Resistance, When You re Torn Between Two Authorities, and Finding Freedom in Truth will be the topics to be addressed OCTOBER is CLERGY APPRECIATION MONTH across our nation! October 1 st is when the Prayer Calendar for Pastor and his family officially begins. The intention is for everyone to be reminded via email of the particular date you signed up for on the calendar. Keep in mind to include Pastor, Cheryl, Elena, Miguel, David and Megan! The week of October 15 th, the suggestion is for greeting cards or personal notes to Pastor, expressing thanks to him for.(fill in the dots). Feel free to place messages in his mail slot in the work room. On Sunday, October the 29 th, we will celebrate not only the 500 th anniversary of the REFORMATION w ith choir and brass in worship, but we will have a voters meeting at 9:30 (Bible class hour) and after late service, we will celebrate our Pastor and his family with a potluck lunch, fancy cake, and a GIFT CARD tree for them. Rumor has it that suggested favorite spots would be: Bed, Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, Lowes, and of course, Amazon. For restaurants: Saltgrass, Olive Garden, and Pei Wei. So bring a dish to share, wear RED, and come and celebrate together our rich heritage as well as the blessed present we enjoy in this place with joy and thanksgiving to God for His many blessings! Amidst all this on October 8 th, we will celebrate LWML Sunday (Lutheran Women in Mission) whom we wish to thank for a new candlelighter. The second- hand one we ve used the last 9 years, simply snuffed out its last flame while refusing to accept a new lighting wick. (how dare it!) Choir is in full swing, but it is not too late for YOU to participate OR if you play an instrument and are hiding it in a closet, maybe it s time to take the instrument out and use it to God s glory! See Judy Kutach. jkutach@livingsaviortexas.org The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10 October Scriptures 10/1 Ezekiel 18:1-4,25-32 Philippians 2:1-4,14-18 Matthew 21:23-27 10/8 1 Kings 8:54-61 2 Timothy 4:1-4 Matthew 10:26-33 10/15 Isaiah 25:6-9 Philippians 4:4-13 Matthew 22:1-14 10/22 Isaiah 45:1-7 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 Matthew 22:15-22 10/29 Revelation 14:6-7 Romans 3:19-28 John 8:31-36 3
