From Rev Richard Stamp The prayer of Sir Francis Drake which he prayed before his raid in Cadiz in 1587: O Lord God, when though givest to thy servants to endeavour any great matter, grant us also to know that it is not the beginning, but the continuing of the same unto the end, until it be thoroughly finished, which yieldeth the true glory; through him who for the finishing of they work laid down his life, our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Three things to pray for when facing difficult decisions, as mentioned in last Sunday's sermon:- 1. For strength in the struggle to obey... to Jesus who knows what its like because he went through his own 'agony'. 2. For vision as to what will best glorify God in this situation. 3. For the inner voice of Holy Spirit to confirm in us the Lord's call and as a way forward.
The Rector Writes Christ is Risen! I do wish I could make this weeks newsletter like the cards you can buy that play music when you open them. If I could that I would have Christ The Lord is Risen Today sounding from your hands right now as you read this. Instead however the words in print will have to suffice; Christ is Risen, Hallelujah! Let the whole creation say, Hallelujah! Raise your joy and triumphs high, Hallelujah! Sing now heaven and earth reply, Hallelujah! Today is one of the year s most significant celebrations, and it moves us into perhaps the most significant season. Once again the Easter season reminds us that Christ s life is inextinguishable, and invites us to know the reality of resurrection every day. If we can avoid the curse of familiarity, this celebration can lead us ever deeper into God s life and transform us into life-carriers that bring life to others and to our world. My prayer is that indeed, we may be captured anew this Easter by Christ s life, death and resurrection and, be transformed more and more like him as we hear and reflect on all that has done and given for us. Rev Richard s prayer of preparation for Thy Kingdom Come: Heavenly Father you have called us through Jesus to pray the prayer, Thy kingdom come As we prepare to enter the parish program called, Thy Kingdom Come, keep our eyes focussed on you. So fill your people with your grace and your Holy Spirit that, through this time, belief in you may be strengthened, hearts may be touched and softened, and the ground prepared for new things to emerge which will tell of your glory in this place. Keep us faithful in this daily prayer through Jesus, Lord and Saviour. Amen. During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, from Ascension and Pentecost (10-20 May), communities and churches around the world will gather together to pray their friends, families and neighbours come to know Jesus Christ. It is hoped that everyone who participates will deepen their friendship with Jesus and come to know that every aspect of their life is the stuff of prayer. A number of events, providing many opportunities for prayer are currently being planned. Keep an eye on the weekly newsletter for further details as they become available. For more information and resources check out the Thy Kingdom Come website https://www.thykingdomcome.global/
