Preparing the Way Dance like no one is watching, love like you ll never be hurt, sing like no one is listening, and live like it s heaven on Earth. ~William Parkey Advent holds two messages for us. First, we are reminded that Jesus, the son of God, came to earth as a human being. At Christmas we commemorate His coming over 2000 years ago. The second message is that Jesus will come again. The gospels for the first three Sundays in Advent urge us to reflect on the Second Coming of Jesus and remind us that we need to be prepared. For children, the first message is more easily comprehended. Children do not think about dying and the end of the world. Our job is to bring these two messages together during the four weeks of Advent. Three ways that come to mind: service, community, and message. Catholic schools are called to be places where service is given to one another and to the larger community. During Advent we challenge our children to be of service to others. The children have adopted nine children from Holy Family Institute, a home for abused and neglected children. The children collected money in order to buy Christmas presents for these children. We wish to share our true spirit of Christmas with these children who are less fortunate than ourselves and to spread the message of Jesus and love for one another. Community is central to a Catholic school. Advent is a time to gather and prepare for the coming of Jesus. We start each week with an Advent prayer service. As a community each class presents themselves to Jesus, who has given us so much. Finally, Advent is a reflective time, a time to quietly consider the message of Jesus. Our gift to the infant Jesus at Christmas could be the determination to be more concerned about the true meaning of Advent; about what we are and how well we demonstrate the meaning of Christmas each and every day. Advent is a time to prepare! May your Advent be filled with service, community, and message. sculptures: C.J. Allen, 4th Simon Bunce, 4th Gina DeAntonis, 4th Preach the Gospel

Campus>News Dear fellow students and parents, The busy holiday season is once again upon us. There is a feeling of hustle and bustle in the air as we tirelessly shop, decorate our homes, and address Christmas cards. It is also a time of wonder and hope, laughter and love, when families gather to reflect on the past s year s gifts and the coming year s promise. Yes, the holiday season is upon us. I am writing to you at this special time of year to ask for your help. The student council at St. Bede has adopted nine children from Holy Family Institute, a home for abused and neglected children. To the children of Holy Family hopelessness is a fact of life. They have been through desperate circumstances and look to us to provide the help they need. At Christmas we extend a loving heart and hope by letting the children we adopt know that they are thought of and that they are important. The student council is asking each child in our preschool through grade 8 to donate money so we can buy Christmas gifts for our adopted children. Without our help, these children will not receive anything on Christmas morning. We are asking that you bring in your money and give it to your homeroom teacher by Tuesday, November 29- Friday, December 9. The student council officers and representatives will shop on Tuesday, December 12 for gifts and deliver those gifts to our adopted children at Holy Family Institute. By giving from our hearts, we are showing others the true spirit of Christmas. Our adopted children: Preschool & Kindergarten: Allison, age 5 First grade: Haidon, age 6 Second grade: Greg, age 7 Third grade: Mike, age 8 Fourth grade: Donesha, age 9 Fifth grade: Courtney, age 10 Sixth grade: Alaina, age 11 Seventh grade: Tyree, age 12 Eighth grade: Nick, age 13 Our generous hearts can help our adopted children experience the true meaning of Christmas by showing them someone cares. Please give, without your help, we can not help. On behalf of the student council, we would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for your generosity and help.
