As we extend the hand of welcome to all, our mission is to learn, love, and live the challenging Word of Jesus Christ, offering parishioners and neighbors direction and support at every phase of their faith journey.

A WORD FROM FR. IVAN Dear Brothers and Sisters, With the July 4th weekend behind us, summer is definitely in full-swing. This can be an excellent time for us to refocus and regroup our energies in order to grow in our relationship with the Lord. Mens sana in corpore sano, the latin adage goes. Summer might be an excellent time to engage in some good reading, and down time with the family. I am particularly concerned about our children and young people. Statistics keep reminding us of how individualized rest and relaxation is becoming big, especially among the younger age-groups. An average child and youth in the U.S. today spends around seven hours a day sitting in front of a T.V. set or a computer, phone-texting or engaged in other non-sociable entertainment, such as playing video games. The odds are that during the summer months, many children and young people will spend even more time in such activities. A young person was telling us the other day that in summer he spends eight hours a day playing video games. That s one of the consequences of a society that does not seek to promote family life. Many times both parents work more than one job, having to leave the children alone and unattended for the most part. I am proposing a few ideas for parents to get their children moving in ways that are also fruitful for the complete formation of our youth: 8:30AM, few can say that it is too early! me, elderly people have a lot of knowledge about life that they can impart to children) or even helping out with some minor errands (like putting a room in order, changing a bulb or tending the garden). Remember that living in a more dignified ambiance benefits everyone. appreciation. visit the Cathedral of St. Paul or the Basilica of St. Mary, an impressive architectural gem that is open for visits every day of the week. and reflecting. -servers, ensure they remain faithful to their schedule during the summer months, and even volunteer at other Masses when there might be a need for extra help. On a personal note I will be taking time off this summer 3 weekends. I will be going out east to visit my priests friends and spend time together. God bless! Wishing you a blessed Sunday. Fr. Pope s Prayer Intentions for July 2017 This month s intention is for those distant from the Christian faith: "that our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover the beauty of the Christian life." "Let us never forget that our joy is Jesus Christ his faithful and inexhaustible love. When a Christian becomes sad, it means that he has distanced himself from Jesus. But then we must not leave him alone! We should offer him Christian hope with our words, yes, but more with our testimony, with our freedom, with our joy. Let us pray that our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover the beauty of the Christian life." St. Paul, Minnesota Page 5
