Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 9, 2017 HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly At that time Jesus exclaimed: I give praise to you Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will Come to me all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon your shoulders for I am meek and humble of heart and you will find rest for yourselves. Recently while watching a film clip with youth in a bible study, it was clear that they had a greater understanding of the message than I. They saw things, images, heard music, which revealed a deeper meaning and understanding of the lesson at hand. Yes, God does reveal to the childlike things which often pass us by. The message for all of us is to place our trust and confidence in the Lord and in responding to His call, learn from Him and the little ones. He reveals Himself as meek and humble, two of the beatitudes which we are called to live. As the minister translated the beatitudes at the inauguration God blesses the poor in Spirit, God blesses the meek, God blesses the humble He surely does. Summer Hours Summer hours have begun! CRS Rice Bowl- Your "Change" Changes Lives: Jenny was removed from her parents home where she suffered abuse and neglect. She bounced from foster home to foster home until a family member agreed to take custody, which lasted until Jenny was 15 when she became homeless. She stayed on the couches of friends and, incredibly, was able to graduate high school. She needed help with her next steps, so she turned to her local Catholic Charities mentoring program. Now Jenny has temporary housing and is attending college. Across the country in 2015, Catholic Charities agencies provided 450,770 clients with some kind of housingrelated service. Food Pantry: Please remember your neighbors next weekend. There are no school lunches over the summer months, but there are still hungry students. Protein is most important -canned meals with meat, tuna, and peanut butter are all important for growing bodies. Thank you for your continued generosity! Elder Care: Do you need assistance with shopping periodically? Are you seeking a responsible person to sit with someone in need of supervision for a brief time? Do you require help with minor household chores? Please call Marge Nadolny 609-409-6164 to schedule this service. Stewardship Reflections For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. - MATTHEW 11:30 When we think of being good stewards, we may think that God is asking too much of us when He calls us to generously share our time, talent and treasure. However, we must remember that we are not owners of anything; we are merely stewards of the gifts God has given us. All He is asking is that we give back a small portion of what He has already given to us.
