St. Mary and Cathedral joint Oyster Roast and Block Party to be held February 22, on the St. Mary Campus, 89 Hasell St. St Mary s Holy Name Society will meet Tuesday, February 14 th in the parish hall at after 5:30 Rosary. All men of the parish are members of St Mary s Holy Name Society and are encouraged to attend. Ladies (or men) Needed to do the Altar Care. Duties include: Polishing the silver urns, Holy Water bucket & gates, polishing the Baptismal Font cover, cleaning and refilling the Holy Water Fonts, wiping down the altar & rail, removing spent flowers, and replacing votive candles. On behalf of the Charleston Port and Seafarers Center and all of the seafarers, I want to thank the St. Mary s community for their support of the Christmas-at-Sea program. This year we were able to give out nearly 2,000 Christmas packages to the men and women we serve. For those who were far from their homes at Christmas this was a small, but greatly appreciated reminder that they are not forgotten, that the Lord cares for all of them. May God bless you always. The icon will be in the Cathedral on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 28 th -29 th, and Fr. Peter West will celebrate the 12:05 Mass. Fr. West will also be taking the icon for a Prayer Vigil at the abortion clinic in West Ashely at 7:00pm on Tuesday, January 28 th. Everyone is encouraged to attend the Masses and the Tuesday night prayer vigil. Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. 2014 Bishop s Annual Appeal Volume 2014, Issue 1 The Catholic Diocese of Charleston 2014 BAA BEGINS THROUGHOUT THE DIOCESE OF CHARLESTON The Bishop s AnnuAl AppeAl (BAA), formerly the Bishop's Stewardship Appeal, is a primary source of funding to help sustain and expand ministries of the 95 parishes, 21 missions, 33 Catholic Schools, and agencies throughout the diocese. Each year, every Catholic in the diocese is asked to respond in prayer, in sharing their talents, and in making a sacrificial gift in support of this important appeal. The Funds generated through our appeal will be allocated to the following ministries: 1. Catholic Charities $850,000 Emergency financial assistance Food pantries Immigration services Prison ministry 2. Vocations $600,000 Seminarians Permanent diaconate Women religious 3. The Sacrament of Matrimony Either the bride or the groom must be a practicing Catholic and registered at St. Marys for at least twelve months before scheduling a wedding date and beginning the six months marriage preparation. The bride/groom must be an active parishioner, regularly attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation, and use the envelope system in regular support of the parish.
