LIBRARY NEWS Reading Tip - Comprehension How can we help our children gain comprehension? We can teach them the comprehension strategy: monitoring because good readers stop frequently to check for understanding. You can help your child with this strategy at home. When reading a story stop 3 or 4 times and ask the following questions. Let s see if we remember what was just read. Who did you just read about? What just happened? Do you understand what was read? What can you do if you don t remember? (Re-read the page to find the information.) If the book is non-fiction, What did we learn?

THANK YOU for your Scholastic Book Orders Thank you to all the students and families who purchased books through scholastic. Each order contributes points to our school library, were able to order two new sets of books, Whatever After (ages 8+) and Horrible Geography full of interesting facts on weather. We look forward to putting these books on the Hot New Reads Trolley at the front of the library. Thank you also to these Mums for covering new take home readers: Sandra Damon, Jo Takeno, Vicki Vecanski, Sarah Donaldson, Reagan McGuigan, Tanya Izatt and Karen Jongbloed. Your assistance with this massive task of covering books is most appreciated. App of the week Block Hexa Puzzle, this is a free app with multiple levels of difficulty. Puzzles are important in shape recognition and problem solving. However an added benefit of working with real floor puzzles is fine motor skills practice. Getting our children to complete small tasks such as puzzles, using scissors, threading beads and using tongs and tweezers to pick up objects helps in strengthening hand muscles for writing. #App of the week is to encourage use of technology, however there should always be a balance between technology and hands on or physical activity. Gretta Baker & Melissa Coman TUCKSHOP New Tuckshop Ordering Company Tuckshop wishes to advise all parents, carers and staff that on the 31 st March we will be leaving Flexischools. We will be moving forward with another online ordering company QKR. Closer to the Term's end I will advise you on how to use QKR. In the meantime could you please either use your credit and/or close your flexischools account by the end of term. Thank you. Tuckshop will be open right up until the last day of Term 1 - Friday, 31 March 2017. Helene Fahey Tuckshop Convenor OFFICE NEWS Student Absences We ask that all student absences now be reported via the Parent Portal. You will notice there is an icon dedicated to "reporting student absences". This is a more convenient method and can be done from any device. We no longer have an absence line on the phone.

Please report absences before 9am so we can then inform parents of any unexplained absences promptly. Cash payments Just a friendly reminder that we are a cashless office, therefore any cash payments made to the office must contain the correct money as we are unable to provide change.

Parent Portal Tip It is so easy to be kept up to date with our Parent Portal when you make use of the "Alert Me" feature under the Class Information tab. Once you select Alert me, you have a choice of how you will be alerted, either by text or email, when a new post for your child's class is uploaded to the portal. You will see the Alert Me icon in the bottom left hand corner of the page once you open up Class Information. An example is pictured below. As soon as new information is posted by their teacher, you will be alerted and therefore always kept up to date with what's happening in your child's class. Give it a go!
