Paul in Prison Free in Christ 2. Ephesians:

Powerful Points from Prison

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles (Ephesians 3:1) I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to have a walk worthy of the calling with which you were called (4:1) for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak (6:20)

32 AD Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. And as he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven (Acts 9:1-3)

Temple of Hadrian Library of Celsus The Great Theatre at Ephesus Acts 19:1-10; 20:31 In Ephesus for 3 years

The length of the temple was 425 feet and the width 225 feet. It included 127 columns, 60 feet in height, to support the roof. Some accounts say the construction took 120 years, though some experts suspect it may have only taken half that time. We do know that when Alexander the Great came to Ephesus in 333 B.C., the temple was still under construction.

Acts 19:23-35

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the beloved.

And He put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all (1:20-23) and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised him from the dead (1:19-20)

Heaven God, Jesus & the Angels = God s Heavenly Family (Eph 3:15) Saints have a Master in heaven and we are His slaves (Eph 6:9; Col 4:1) The work of Jesus will reconcile heaven and earth (Eph 1:10; Col 1:20) Earth Jesus Christ, the Apostles and Prophets Under the Earth Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth (Eph 4:9) Those under the earth will bow the knee to Christ (Phil 2:10)

Heaven Earth And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others (Eph 2:1-3) Jesus Christ, the Apostles and Prophets Under the Earth

Heaven Earth But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus (Eph 2:4-7) Jesus Christ, the Apostles and Prophets Under the Earth

Past Present Future Earth Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. (2:11,12) But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of division between us, having abolished in his flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that he might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. NO FOREIGNER IS TO GO BEYOND THE BALUSTRADE AND THE PLAZA OF THE TEMPLE ZONE. WHOEVER IS CAUGHT DOING SO WILL HAVE HIMSELF TO BLAME FOR HIS DEATH WHICH WILL FOLLOW

At that time you were (1) without Christ, being (2) aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and (3) strangers from the covenants of promise, (4) having no hope and (5) without God in the world. 1. Christless 2. Stateless 3. Friendless 4. Hopeless 5. Godless

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been made near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of division between us Ephesians 2:12-18

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22 Jesus Christ, the Apostles and Prophets The apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ

Ephesians 2:19-22

He put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. (1:22,23) that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel (3:6) There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling (4:4) for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man (4:12,13)

we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into him who is the head Christ (4:14,15)

grow up in all things into Him who is the head Christ from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love (Ephesians 4:15,16) Love x 14 Powerful Points from Prison

Eph: First Prayer Eph: Second Prayer 1:17 1:17,18 1:18,19 1:19,20 1:22,23 the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Eph: First Prayer Eph: Second Prayer 1:17 the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory 3:14, 15 the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named 1:17,18 may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man 1:18,19 that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe 3:17-19 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge 1:19,20 according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ 3:20 according to the power that works in us 1:22,23 the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. 3:19 that you may be filled with all the fullness of God

But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard him and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:20-24)

Our thoughts Our actions Our words

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart (4:17,18) Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called (4:1) walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given himself for us (5:2) Walk as children of light (5:8) See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil (5:15,16)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies (Ephesians 5:25-28)

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6:10-13)

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:14-18)

praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (6:18-20)

But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you; whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts. Peace to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. (Ephesians 6:21-24)
