Page 3 Friday, July 7, 2017 THE COUNCIL CORNER It was great to be a part of Sunday's church service in the park - a true celebration of Canada's 150 years. There were greetings from Sue Foxton, Kathryn McGarry and Bryan May. There was participation from Calvary Church, Christ Anglican Church, Glen Morris United Church, Roseville United Brethren Church and our own Knox United Church. Those who brought greetings all mentioned how fortunate we are to live in Canada. Perhaps, it's also a time we should express how fortunate we are to have had forefathers who kept our churches strong and kept the faith when times were much more difficult than the present day. Our proud spiritual heritage stems from Stanley St. Church formed in 1834 and the present building in 1888. The celebration of the 150th of Knox was a long while ago in 1984. Also, well over 150 years, is the present Glen Morris Church built in 1849. Also so long ago, everyone would have come to church by foot or horse and buggy. Yet records indicate numbers in the hundreds to praise God and worship in those days. Even in 1997 Knox United Church had 754 people under its pastoral care. Our country was founded on Christian values and 150 years ago we stood for Christianity in a very dedicated way. Whatever way we choose to look back on our heritage this special 150th year, let's take some time to think about the sacrifices made by those who went on before so Christianity would prevail in our families, homes and churches. Psalm 33:12 says, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage." Let us forever keep God the center of our heritage. Blessings to all, Betty Butcher Knox Chair of Council KINDRED SPIRITS Ladies, You are invited to come to the home of Joyce Sommers for a pool party on Monday, July 10th.
