SERVICE TIMES Sundays at 8:00, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m. Communion served the 1st Sunday of each month Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. Communion served weekly OFFICE HOURS Tuesday - Thursday 9:30-3:00 Friday 9:30-2:30 SCRIPTURE FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2018 Scripture Reading: Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither - whatever they do prospers. Sermon Scripture: Galatians 5:13-26 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking
and envying each other. DONATION OF ITEMS GUMC is very generous when items are requested by the ministries within our congregation. Recently we have had a large number of donated items that don't apply to a current need. As everyone knows storage is a very real issue within our facility. Please do not bring items for donation unless it fulfills a current need, we just do not have the space to store items until they are needed. Thank you! THESE ARE THE ONLY CURRENT NEEDS - NEW ITEMS FOR THE MISSION AUCTION - BATTERIES, HAND WARMERS & SOCKS FOR FEEDING FRIENDS - NON-PERISHABLE FOOD FOR THE HAYMARKET FOOD PANTRY Join us at the 11:00 service as we honor all of our Scouts. All scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms so they can be recognized. SECURITY PANEL AND ALARM CODE CHANGE For those that use the building and need to know, our Alarm System panel has changed. When arming the alarm, input the pass code and press away. When disarming the alarm, input the pass code and press stay. The current pass code will be changed for the alarm system as well as the keybox on Tuesday, March 6th. If you require the new code please contact the church office.
from 7:30-9:00. For more information please click here. MISSION AUCTION DINNER This year's mission auction is coming up on Saturday, March 3rd. Our annual auction is the big fundraiser we do every year for our mission projects and they're always great evenings. This year's theme is Hawaiian Luau, so dig through your closet to find a few Hawaiian shirts! Purchase your tickets here and check out all of the great items that we have, so far. We're also looking for auction item donations from the congregation. Anything from gift cards and small goods all the way up to use of a timeshare would be greatly appreciated! The one thing we do ask is that whatever is donated be new rather than used. If you're interested in donating or would like to help with the setup for the auction, please contact our Youth Director, Bert Miller at youth@gumchurch.com. NE W SU ND AY SC See you then! HOOL CHECK IN PROCESS 2018 is a year of change for us here at GUMC. Starting this Sunday, we will have a new check-in process for our Nursery through Elementary aged Sunday School children. Children will be checked in before the start of the service on this date and moving forward. Our new check in procedure will involve using an electronic system to check in children and name tags will be issued for the children and guardians. We look at this as a positive step in safety for the new year. Please be patient with us while we work out the kinks in our new check-in process. PASTORAL CARE Do you or someone you know within our church family have an urgent need for Pastoral care? Please call our Pastoral Care number - 703-398-9085.
