Open Doors ANNUAL REVIEW 2017 I have seen with joy how willingly your people have given to you. 1 Chronicles 29:17 It gives me great joy to witness the growing love and concern shown by the church in the UK and Ireland towards the persecuted church. By God s grace, Open Doors UK and Ireland has seen extraordinary and sustained growth in the last five years, as more and more people have committed to pray regularly, give sacrificially and speak out passionately for their persecuted family. And it is equally a joy to see how God is using that faithful support not just to keep the church alive, but to enable her to thrive, and to shine the light of Christ in some of the darkest places on earth. Across Africa and Asia, persecution is increasing. In Iraq and Syria, hope hangs by a thread. Yet your prayerful generosity is literally keeping people alive and giving them fresh hope for the future. Thank you! Despite this incredible growth, the needs of our persecuted family continue to outweigh our ability to respond to them so please don t stop now! Whether you have been a supporter for one year or many, I am so thankful for your partnership in this vital ministry. I pray that as you read this Annual Review, you will be encouraged and inspired to see how your prayers and gifts, your letters to MPs and petition signatures, are truly making a difference to God s people. Lisa Pearce, CEO Open Doors UK and Ireland THANK YOU! 11.7 million was donated in support of persecuted Christians Over 37,500 people prayed regularly for the persecuted church

CAMPAIGN UPDATE Hope for the Middle East Thank you for praying, giving, signing the global One Million Voices of Hope petition, and asking others to sign too! Last year, supporters in the UK and Ireland raised an incredible 2.95 million to support our brothers and sisters in Syria and Iraq with vital aid and long-term projects. Nidal from Iraq received food aid when she was forced to flee her home to escape the self-proclaimed Islamic State. She says, That kept us alive and hopeful and helped us hope for better times. Your support also enables Open Doors to ensure the voices of persecuted Christians are heard by those in power. Tobias Ellwood, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, says, Open Doors makes a major contribution to the Government s thinking to try to support Christians and other religious communities in the Middle East and North Africa. The global campaign continues to gather momentum, with people from over 90 different countries signing the petition. Please keep sharing the petition, and look out for exciting news about our plans to present it at the UN in New York in December. Secret Children Thanks to supporters who have committed to give and pray regularly for children, Open Doors continues to offer practical help and care to thousands of children who are bullied, displaced or even orphaned for being Christian. In Chhattisgarh, India, 15 children and their families were brutally beaten and chased out of their village because of their Christian faith. Two other siblings were at school when the attack happened. They came home to fnd their houses vandalised, their families gone, and only their elderly grandmother left behind. With help from Open Doors partners, the children were reunited with their parents and given food and clothing. The families all received medical aid and safe shelter until they could go home. Thank you for helping to assure these children and their families that they haven t been forgotten. www.opendoorsuk.org

We would like to thank you a lot for your unlimited support, which is a great honour for us because we understand and feel the deep level of love that you give us. With your support we could meet the people s needs, not only those interested just in food or material help, but also those who are interested in their spiritual life. Worker in Aleppo, Syria March/April To all the beloved of Open Doors, I say as a mother, thank you to everyone. If today my children and I live, eat and are clothed, it is you that God used to provide all these blessings. Sharifa, widowed mother-of-eight, Cameroon Every 34 provided clothing and blankets to a survivor of violence in sub-saharan Africa.
