How do I Repent?
We learned: Repentance = Metanoia = Mind Change How do I Repent?
Metanoia Was NEVER a Roman Military Term for About Face
Why can t we just try to do good without repentance?
Why can t we just try to do good without repentance?
We tend to overestimate our before picture... Ephesians 2:1-3 dead in your transgressions deserving of wrath
...and underestimate our after picture! Colossians 1:22 holy in his sight, without blemish, free from accusation
We need a clear picture of ourselves!
2 Timothy 3:1-5 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 2 3 4 5

Elegcho (e-len-cho) The Gate of Repentance - to show someone his sin and to summon him to repentance, to rebuke, reprove, expose and discipline.
The Holy Spirit Convicts us... Ephesians 5:13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is the light that makes everything visible. Revelation 3:19 I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent.
...the Cross Compels us... 2 Corinthians 5:14-16 For Christ s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view.
...the Cross Compels us! 1 Peter 2:24-25 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
...and the Church Reorients us! Matthew 18: 15-17 If your brother or sister sins,go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
2 Samuel 12: 9-13 Nathan Rebukes David Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own. This is what the Lord says: Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel. Then David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. 10 11 12 13
