Putting other s needs before our own needs is a sign of becoming a mature disciple, of following Jesus example. Humility is really a sign of a strength. By putting other s needs first we declare to the world that we are putting our complete trust in God. When we align our thoughts and actions with God s plan for us, the result is Joy and Peace. National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated in our country November 5-11, 2017. Please ask our Lord for more dedicated, holy priests, deacons and consecrated men and women. HHS to define human life as beginning at conception The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a draft of its new strategic plan for 2018-2022. There is a major shift or change in their mission statement. Formerly, the document stated the following in its introductory information: HHS accomplishes its mission through programs and initiatives that cover a wide spectrum of activities, serving Americans at every stage of life. The new edition now states this: HHS accomplishes its mission through programs and initiatives that cover a wide spectrum of activities, serving and protecting Americans at every stage of life, beginning at conception. This small change in wording signifies the HHS knows and accepts the truth that life begins at conception. Now HHS is committed to protecting those lives. Painting from a photo! A BULLETIN COLUMN OF ODDS AND ENDS: 1) I LL BE AT THE WHITE HOUSE THIS WEEK: No. not that White House where President Trump lives but the Jesuit version of it along the banks of the Mississippi River in South St. Louis County along with other priests from our Archdiocese. Please pray for me as I will pray for you. 2) PLEASE NOTE THE NOTICE LATER IN THIS BULLETIN ABOUT THE ONE MAN PLAY TOLTON: FROM SLAVE TO PRIEST ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26 Our parish is partnering with All Saints Parish in St. Peters to underwrite this dramatic presentation to be held at All Saints Annex the Sunday after Thanksgiving Day, November 26, at 2:00 PM. The background information from the group organizing the travelling show, Saint Luke Productions (go to www.stlukeproductions.com to learn more about this most creative group) has this to say about this production: Tolton tells the incredible true story of Father Augustus Tolton, the first African American Catholic priest. Born into slavery near the beginning of the Civil War and rejected by every seminary in the United States, Fr. Tolton is remarkable not only for his courage and perseverance, but for his humility and intense love for souls. Actor Andrae Goodnight brings this extraordinary priest to life in a stirring one-man live drama. Through the performance, audiences enter into Fr. Tolton s world and experience his message of reconciliation and hope, as poignant and relevant today as it was during his lifetime. The play incorporates all the elements of professional theater brought right to your venue, combining lighting effects, video components, and an original soundtrack. Please be sure to mark your calendars for this event. All Saints Annex can only hold 300 people so we have divided the tickets equally between our two parishes. Please call the Parish Office (636-946-6327 if you would want a ticket. These tickets available to you at NO COST. Father Don Wester, the pastor of All Saints, and I agreed that we didn t want anything to dissuade anyone from seeing this live presentation. You will have the chance to make a donation to cover the costs. Also you are invited to stay after it concludes for a discussion of the play. I hope to see you there. 3) THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK AT ALL OUR MASSES THE WEEKEND OF NOVEMBER 18 & 19: It s been awhile since we have offered the Sacrament of the Sick at all of our weekend Masses, but Father Mark s being assigned to St. Cletus gives us the opportunity to do so. Please remember that this Sacrament is offered to anyone who is suffering from any type of serious illness, physical or emotional. Often I hear people describe this Sacrament as a blessing UGH! A blessing is only a prayer; a sacrament is God really present and really doing something personally and immediately in our lives. We Catholics often speak of the Eucharist as the Real Presence, but that term applies to every sacrament. For example, Baptism is the Father really present and really making us his sons and daughters. Confirmation is the Holy Spirit really present and really making us to be witnesses/apostles of Jesus. Reconciliation is Jesus really present and really forgiving us our sins. Please do me a favor and never refer to the Sacrament of the Sick as a blessing! 4) TWO RECENTLY RECEIVED THANK YOU LETTERS: The Little Sisters of the Poor thank us for contributing $8,916.89 in August to help them with their work with the poor. Father Claudius Mganga of the Archdiocese of Mwanze in Tanzania thanks us for contributing $4,989.62 through the Missionary Coop Appeal in June. 5) NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK NOVEMBER 5-11, 2017 (Wise words from our Archdiocese s Office of Vocations website below & see http://archstl.org/vocations/page/vocation-awareness-information.) God calls us all to live our faith and seek out our vocation to become a deacon, priest, religious sister, married or single person. Perhaps God is calling you to the priesthood or consecrated life. Will you have the courage to follow your heart? We are all called to love and serve Him and one another. As we continue to walk in the light of Christ and to serve our Lord with our whole heart, mind and soul, may we be filled with the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and seek to forgive all who have hurt us. National Vocation Awareness Week is a time for reflection and during National Vocation Awareness Week, we encourage all Catholics to: Take time to pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. Reflect on our own vocation and strengthen our personal relationship with Christ. Educate our young people about the importance of silent prayer and taking the time to truly. Listen to God's voice in our hearts. For more info on National Vocation Awareness Week, visit the US Conference of Catholic Bishops website: http://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/vocations/national-vocation-awareness-week.cfm
