Helping End Poverty Earlier this month the Norfolk warehouse volunteers loaded 163,944 Mercy Meals, 320 pounds rice, blankets, sleeping mats, Bibles, school supplies, sports uniforms/equipment, bicycles, and toys for Kids International Ministries (KIM) in the Philippines. KIM has a school named Cuatro Christian School (CCS) which serves children from their orphanage and also from the surrounding community that would not otherwise attend school because of cost and living in poverty. They are offered a free education, school supplies, uniform and lunches while attending in hopes of breaking the cycle of poverty and to live life glorifying to God. Their school year starts in June and the school supplies and some for the food and sports equipment will be used there. These are such wonderful gifts for the children and families in the Philippines. Thank you OGT Supporters! Picture is previous photo from CCS.
Border Mission Gifts Recently the Mitchell zone LWML had a spring workshop supporting OGT. They had Gifts from the Heart gathering which included putting together 130 school kits with backpacks for OGT to deliver to Ysleta Mission in El Paso, Texas. Some ladies from Armour Redeemer Lutheran Church in South Dakota brought the backpacks to OGT and then had a tour and volunteered for a few hours in the warehouse. Thank you for the needed backpacks and for your help in the warehouse. We enjoyed the time with you! Salvaged Goods Two volunteer crews spent May 17 and 19 on a Recycling Mission! Anne Arundel Community College was planning to demolish a building, and chalk boards and desks were meant for the throw away pile. Maryland Branch said we would take them to send to Liberia and India. The first volunteer crew of 5 spent Thursday taking 46 chalk boards off the classroom walls, as well as rescuing several manual pencil sharpeners. Saturday, another crew of 9 men (including 3 midshipmen from the Naval Academy) transported 270 desks from the college classrooms to the Maryland branch warehouse. We are THANKFUL for our volunteers! Devotion by Paul Leckband, Orphan Grain Train Correspondent Read: John 3:1-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. John 3:16-17 A Costly Donation John 3:16... Quite possibly one of the first Bible verses you learned.
Also quite possibly one of your favorite if not THE favorite. We know this verse by heart, We hear it preached. We read it. Is it possible that it s easy to take this verse for granted? Let s reason this out. How much do you love your own spouse or sons or daughters? Enough to donate one of your kidneys to them, if it was a critical need? I have a feeling that you d say, Of course. What about donating one of your kidneys to a brother or sister? What about a niece or nephew? What about a good friend? The answer to those questions might not come quite as easily, but I have a feeling that most of us would still answer, Yes, or at least, Probably. This is no small decision. After all, donating a healthy kidney would leave us with only one remaining kidney. What happens if that kidney goes bad? Now comes the key question. Would you donate a kidney to a criminal? A convicted felon? A callous murderer on death row? I m not sure I would. Yet that s exactly what God the Father did when He gave His only begotten His one & only Son to donate--not a kidney, but to donate His very life for us poor, miserable sinners. We are the callous murderers on death row, because our sins nailed Him to that horrible cross. Yet Jesus loved us so much that He willingly went to the cross to die the death that was rightfully ours. And the truth doesn t end there. He rose again on the 3 rd day, and by God s grace we poor, miserable sinners are forgiven & saved. How does Orphan Grain Train deliver God s mercy & grace to the needy, both here & afar?
