March 18, 2018 The Fifth Sunday of Lent 5 A Note About Conversion And Reception Into The Catholic Church In recent years, this process has been under the designation of the Rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) with its various rites, stages, and ceremonies. It is a fact in this parish, the number of people actively involved in carrying out the RCIA program has diminished and the lifestyles and schedules of those inquiring about becoming Catholics has changed. This necessitates a reform in the way this program is ministered in the parish. The very first step for anyone, of whatever nature of interest in either becoming a Catholic or an already baptized adult interested in completing their Sacraments in the Catholic Church, is a phone call to either Father Sikorski or me to set up an interview, for an introduction and discussion of your interest and/or needs in this area. This will enable us to get to know you, your circumstances and to determine an appropriate length and nature of your instructions in the Catholic Faith. These can vary in depth and length, according each individual s circumstances and schedule. The priest will then be able to arrange the appropriate stages and ceremonies for the potential convert. It has always been a hallmark of conversion to the Catholic Faith that they meet, and develop a relationship with his or her pastor and parish priests. I am very grateful to Mrs. Marie Prinito and Mr. Robert Ruvio, who have borne the responsibility for this important work for many years. The work of introducing adults to the Catholic Faith or completing others initiation into the life of the Church continues and will benefit from this reform and renewal. Father Hewes

March 31 ~ Holy Saturday ~ It has become a tradition, here at St Matthew, for our children and grandchildren to bring their Easter baskets to Church on the morning of Holy Saturday to be blessed. Father Sikorski will conducts a ceremony at 10:30 am, blessing the contents of the children s baskets, as well as the food that will grace your table on Easter Sunday. Plan to attend and bring the children to celebrate the true meaning of Easter. It s a busy day, but this ceremony will take about a half hour or less. I m sure you can find the time and bring your camera. I am planning a trip to Sight and Sound in Lancaster, Pa. We have been there several times and the experience is just beautiful. I cannot find the correct adjective to describe it, but those of you who have been there before know what I mean and those who haven t, be prepared to be amazed. It is planned for June 12 or 13, depending on the best seats available. The cost is $120. per person and includes dinner at the Amish restaurant, Shady Maple, as well as all tips and taxes. We are purchasing tickets to a show and must place orders as soon as possible, in order to get the best available seats. I must have a minimum of 40 people to commit to this trip, to make this happen. Please call me at 631 667-7922, if you have any questions and to confirm your interest. Once I am sure I have the required number of people to make this trip, I will let you know when the money is due. Do not send any money now but remember, bring a friend, as all are welcome on our trips. Remember to pray for all those who are ill and for their loving caregivers. Pray also for our country, our President, the Military and for all those who protect us. God bless America. See you in church. Pat. The language of friendship is not words, but meanings. It is an intelligence above language. Henry David Thoreau To me, dear friend, you can never be old. March 18, 2018 The Fifth Sunday of Lent 17 Respect Life News Spiritual Adoption Program MONTH SIX Developing Baby Your spiritually adopted baby is developing quite beautifully now. His/her weight is approaching 2 pounds. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. Justice O Connor has remarked that the Roe vs. Wade decision is on a collision course with itself. Each passing year, we witness medical advances that allow medical professionals to save younger and younger premature infants. PREGNANT? NEED HELP? This new policy requires that employers sign a form supporting abortion and transgender "rights" in order to receive student summer job grants, thus restricting the voices of faith communities in Canada and limiting their participation in the public square. "It seriously undermines the right to religious freedom since the Government of Canada is directly limiting the right of religious traditions to hold, teach and practice their principles and values in public," the bishops wrote. Non-profit groups, small businesses, and private sector employers can apply for funding for wage subsidies for students ages 15-30. However, some in government did not want pro-life groups receiving any Canada Summer Jobs grants, so this year they added the new requirement that pro-life individuals and businesses cannot, in good conscience, sign. Some unfortunate consequences of this new policy will be: summer camps will be forced to close; the services of numerous non-profit organizations will be reduced; apprenticeship opportunities will be lost. "These effects, to name but a few, will be felt in Catholic dioceses and organizations as well as in many other faith communities across Canada." (lifesitenews.com, 1/11/18; cccb.ca, 1/18/18; catholic register.org, 1/11/18) "Christians must beware of a polite persecution that is cloaked in a disguise of culture, modernity, and progress."
