Knollwood at Worship THE THIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Sunday, June 10, 2018 10:55 am To those who feel the need of light; to those who find doubts and fears in their hearts; to those who need courage for their daily tasks; to those who feel lonely and friendless; to those who wish to give service; to all who, in faith, will support and involve themselves to the limit of their ability in the work of the Kingdom of God which this church undertakes; to all who want rest, peace, and happiness this church invites you to the fellowship of Jesus.

KNOLLWOOD AT WORSHIP GATHERING FOR WORSHIP Please silence all electronic devices. Thank you! THE CHIMES Three chimes are sounded, awakening us to the presence of God, alerting us to the voice of Christ, centering us in the embrace of the Spirit. As we gather, we present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship. THE OPENING SENTENCE... Diane Lipsett One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. THE PRELUDE Allemande... Johann Sebastian Bach Lauren Winkelman, piano THE CALL TO WORSHIP... Diane Lipsett One: We come to You, dear Lord, with open arms and grateful hearts. All: It is good to be in this place of worship with our sisters and brothers. One: We seek spiritual growth and wisdom through prayer, song, and holy words of encouragement. All: May our experience in this place fill us with Your boundless love. One: May our lives be examples of Your light in the world. All: Guide us now, for we are ready. ~Ted Philpott THE INVOCATION AND THE LORD S PRAYER... Diane Lipsett *THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN OF PRAISE, as printed on p. 6 God Is Here... ABBOT S LEIGH THE ORDINANCE OF CHRISTIAN BAPTISM... Josh Godwin One: Today we joyously receive a new disciple into Christ's one, holy, apostolic, and universal church. All: Through baptism we are brought into union with Christ, with each other, and with the church in every place and time. One: Through baptism we are buried with Christ that with him, we may be raised from death to walk in newness of life. All: Through baptism, we celebrate and claim the forgiveness of sin and the indwelling presence and power of the Holy Spirit. One: Through baptism, we, like Jesus, are named beloved sons and daughters of God. We accept our sacred calling to let our lights shine and to love and serve God by loving and serving our neighbors and, yes, our enemies too. All: As this new disciple is baptized, we remember and rejoice in our own baptism, proclaiming Jesus Lord and Savior. Through the water we became sisters and brothers, joined in Christ's body, the church. * Those who are able will stand. Ushers will seat those waiting. Hearing aids and large print hymns are available from the ushers. 2

One: Let us love and follow Christ together. The Lord is risen! All: The Lord is risen indeed! The Statement of Faith The Baptism of Shepherd Causby... Rebecca Neiberg One: This is the word of God. Deacon of the Week All: Thanks be to God. THE ANTHEM Jesus, My Lord, My Life, My All... Bob Burroughs The Chancel Choir Jesus my Lord, my life, my all, hear me, blest Savior, when I call; Hear me and from thy dwelling place pour down the riches of thy grace. Jesus, too late I thee have sought; How can I love thee as I ought? And how extol thy matchless fame, the glorious beauty of thy name? Jesus, of thee will be my song; to thee my heart and soul belong; All that I have or own is thine, and thou, o blessed Savior, thou art mine. Jesus, my Lord, I thee adore, O make me love thee more and more. *THE GOSPEL LESSON: Mark 3:20-21, 31-35... Josh Godwin One: This is the Gospel of Christ. One: Lift up your hearts! All: We lift them to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give our thanks and praise! 3

The Prayer of Confession Holy God, we humbly come before You, anxious for Your presence and especially for forgiveness. You have loved and blessed us so generously, yet we often find ourselves too busy to keep You first in our thoughts and our actions. Forgive us, Lord. As we prepare for Holy Communion, may we remember Your Son s sacrifice and His amazing grace. May the baptism of a young believer renew our desire to see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly and follow Thee more nearly, every day. ~Ted Philpott The Words of Institution Sharing the Bread and the Cup This morning, we will serve one another Communion as brothers and sisters in the family of God. Please use the center aisle to approach the table at the front of the section where you are seated. Once a circle of worshipers forms around the table, the minister will offer the first person the bread of Communion and say, The love of God for you. That person then passes the bread to the next person in the circle and says, The love of God for you, and so on. The minister will then offer the chalice to the first person served and say, The peace of Christ for you. That person will dip his or her bread in the chalice and take Communion. He or she will then hold the chalice for the next person in the circle and say, The peace of Christ for you, and so on. Gluten-free wafers are available for those who need them. Children or others who wish to participate in this shared experience but not receive the bread and juice may cross their arms over their chest and receive a blessing from the minister. Please remain standing at the table until everyone is served, then return to your seat by the outside aisle by the wall. (If you prefer to have Communion served at your seat, please indicate with a raised hand and a deacon will assist you.) The Bread and the Cup Grave from Cello Sonata in G Major... Giovanni Battista Sammartini Evan Richey, cello For Everyone Born... arr. Tom Trenney The Chancel Choir; Evan Richey, cello For everyone born, a place at the table, for everyone born, clean water and bread, A shelter, a space, a safe place for growing, for everyone born, a star overhead. Refrain: And God will delight when we are creators of justice and joy, compassion and peace: Yes, God will delight when we are creators of justice, justice and joy. For woman and man, a place at the table, revising the roles, deciding the share, With wisdom and grace, dividing the power, for woman and man, a system that's fair. [Refrain] For young and for old, a place at the table, a voice to be heard, a part in the song, The hands of a child in hands that are wrinkled, for young and for old, the right to belong. [Refrain] For everyone born, a place at the table, to live without fear, and simply to be, To work, to speak out, to witness and worship, for everyone born, the right to be free. [Refrain] 4
