SUMMARY The Santacruzan at Sunset: Festival of Lights and Roses is a new take on the tradition of the Flores de Mayo and the Santacruzan. The celebration honors Filipino heritage, the Holy Mother, and Queen Helena, the founder of the cross, through a procession. This Santacruzans is unique in that it takes place in the late afternoon with an anticipated Mass to follow. The Santacruzan at Sunset will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1st with a procession around the Nolita area starting at 5:30PM at Mulberry Street and Prince Street and ending at the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz where Holy Mass will be celebrated at 7:30PM. GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE PROCESSION Participants in the procession include the Sagalas and their entourage, Angels, and the Living Rosary. In order to participate in the procession, all participants must sign a Participation Form, Waiver, and for minors, a Parental Consent Form. Unless otherwise noted, Participation Forms, Waivers, and Parental Consent Forms, must be signed at least 30 minutes before the start of the procession. However, participants are HIGHLY encouraged to submit forms at least one week prior. For more information, please refer to the specific guidelines for each category and the timeline of events. Sagalas The sagalas are the focal point of the procession. They are the women representing the reynas. They march under arches with an escort and are often preceded by flower girls. All those who would like to be a sagala will be given a title and a corresponding sash, but must submit a Participation Form by Friday, May 24th. Those in the sagala s entourage may submit their Participation Form on the day of the procession, since they do not have sashes. All titles will be announced on Wednesday, May 29th with sashes distributed on that evening as well as on the day of the procession. There will be two age categories for the reynas in the Santacruzan at Sunset: 14-24 and 25+. Ages 14-24 Marian Reynas & the Reyna Elena These young women will represent the Marian images. The highest titles will be made available through a fundraising competition. o The three young women, who raise the highest, second highest, and third highest amount of funds, will be named the Reyna Elena, Reyna de las Flores, and Reyna de las Virgenes, respectively. o Canvassing for the top 3 titles will be released every Friday. o All funds must be reported and submitted by Sunday, May 26th. o The announcement of the top 3 titles will be made on Wednesday, May 29th. 1

o More information on the fundraising competition will be distributed in a Sponsorship Packet once a Participation Form is submitted. o Candidates not selected for the top three titles will still be able to join the procession under other titles. Ages 25+ Historical and Biblical Reynas These women will represent the Historical and Biblical reynas. All sagalas, in BOTH age categories, must provide the following: DRESS Formal gown, eveningwear. Filipiñana optional. PROPS Appropriate to title. Optional. ESCORT Escort optional. Must wear a barong. ARCH Portable arch, easy to carry. Maximum of 5 wide. Battery-operated lighting recommended but optional. ARCH BEARERS To carry the arch throughout the procession. FLOWER GIRLS Flower girls optional. Up to two young girls to process before the sagala. Must wear white. Constantino Constantino is a young boy (13 or under) who is a part of the entourage of the Reyna Elena. He is representative of the son of Queen Helena, founder of the cross. All those who would like to be considered for Constantino must submit a participation form by Friday, May 24th. The title of Constantino will be given to the boy who raises the highest amount of funds. Canvassing for Constantino will be released every Friday. All funds must be submitted on Sunday, May 26th. The announcement of Constantino will be made on Wednesday, May 29th with a sash distributed either on that evening or on the day of the procession. More information on the fundraising competition will be distributed in a Sponsorship Packet once a Participation Form is submitted. Candidates not selected for Constantino will be named angels. Constatino must provide the following: BARONG Must wear a white barong. 2

Angels Angels, girls and boys ages 13 & below, march throughout the procession. Angels will march at the beginning of the procession, accompanied by adult volunteers. Eight angels, preferably first communicant girls, process before the Marian reynas holding letters spelling A-V-E M-A-R-I-A. These girls will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis. The letters will be distributed on the day of the procession. All angels must provide the following: DRESS (Girls) White formal dress. Communion dress preferred. BARONG/SUIT (Boys) White barong preferred. Dark colored suit. WINGS Wings highly recommended but optional. Living Rosary The Living Rosary is a live representation of the beads on the rosary. Ideally, sixty participants are required; however, the Living Rosary may be accommodated with more or less people. Groups and organizations are encouraged to participate in the Living Rosary. Groups can participate as single beads each or as a decade. Individuals may also participate in the Living Rosary. The dress code is business casual or Sunday s best. I understand that the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz, FAMILYYA, the Family, Youth, and Young Adult Ministry at the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz (hereby known as FAMILYYA ), and First Filipino Martyr Saint, Inc. may prohibit me or anyone in my party from participating in the Santacruzan at Sunset: Festival of Lights and Roses (hereby known as Santacruzan at Sunset ) held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan and at the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz, New York, NY, for any reasons, including, but not limited to, not signing a waiver prior to the procession, not signing a parental consent form for all minors, and behaving in a way that does not represent the image of the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz and First Filipino Martyr Saint, Inc. I understand that in order to retrieve my child, regardless of whether or not I march with my son/daughter, I must sign a release form at the dismissal of the procession, approximately between the times of 6:00PM and 8:00PM at the Chapel of San Lorenzo Ruiz. I understand that my son/daughter will remain under the care of the volunteers of the Santacruzan at Sunset until I do so.
