83 Peter Tells the Sahedri About Jesus Acts 4:5-14 BIBLe BACKGROUND FOR LEADERS Earthly Power The Sahedri was the rulig body of the Jews. It had authority i all religious matters. Oe of the Sahedri s duties was to deal with cases of blasphemy. Members of the Sahedri probably viewed Peter s ad Joh s actios as blasphemy. Peter ad Joh claimed that they were able to heal a ma somethig oly God could do through the power of Jesus. So they called Peter ad Joh before them. Heavely Power Whe asked the source of his power to heal, Peter replied that the power came from Jesus, whom God had raised from the dead. The Sahedri had tried to cover up the Resurrectio (Matthew 28:11-15), but Peter coteded that the healed ma stadig before them proved that Jesus is alive.
