Later, join us for a mini-cruise on beautiful Lake Geneva and a welcome dinner. (Geneva-2 nights) D Tuesday, September 9, 2008 Geneva This morning we take a walking tour of Geneva, visiting St. Peter s Cathedral, where John Calvin taught the doctrine that made him famous throughout the Protestant faith. We also see Calvin s Academy and the Reformation Monument. After a break for lunch and some free time, we visit the Reformation Museum and take a guided tour of the archeological discoveries underneath St. Peter s Cathedral. B/D Wednesday, September 10, 2008 Geneva Montreux Wengen Our morning begins with a visit to the 12 th century Chateau de Chillon made famous by the romantic poet Lord Byron. During the 16 th century the chateau served as a Counter-Reformation prison. After our tour relax in lovely Montreux. Later, we drive the exceptionally picturesque Golden Pass train route through the Bernese Oberland. We leave our bus in Lauterbrunnen and board the cogwheel train for the traffic free resort town of Wengen our home for the next two nights. (Wengen-2 nights) B/D Thursday, September 11, 2008 Wengen Lauterbrunnen This morning we experience spectacular views as we ascend the Schilthorn by cable car (weather permitting). This 10,000- foot peak has a revolving restaurant that became a Hollywood set during the filming of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty s Secret Service. After a morning spent high in the Alps we catch our breath in the beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley. The rest of the day is free to make our own Alpine memories. Take the unforgettable train ride through the Eiger mountain to the Jungfrau the highest peak in the region, visit Interlaken, hike to nearby villages, or join us for an optional horseback riding excursion through scenery that is breathtaking. B/D Friday, September 12, 2008 Zurich Today is devoted to the sights of the Protestant Reformer Ulrich Zwingli, who preached in Zurich from 1519-1531. Zwingli believed that the Bible alone was the sole source of faith. Our sightseeing highlights include the Fraumunster Cathedral famous for its Chagall stained glass windows and the Grossmunster where Zwingli sparked the Reformation in this region. We also visit the Guild Hall and Museum. The rest of the afternoon is ours to explore this great city. (Zurich-1 night) B Saturday, September 13, 2008 Konstanz Black Forest Baden Baden We get an early start today as we leave Zurich and drive to Konstanz, Germany. On our way we stop to admire Schaffhausen Waterfall the largest in Europe. Konstanz is a lovely town on the lake just over the border. It is also the place where Reformer Jan Hus was martyred. We visit Konstanz Cathedral where Hus was sentenced to death in 1415. Later, we take a scenic drive through the Black Forest, stopping in one of the most beautiful towns for lunch with time to hike a trail or shop for cuckoo clocks. We end our day in the elegant spa town of Baden Baden. (Baden Baden-2 nights) B/D Sunday, September 14, 2008 Baden Baden Sunday morning begins with worship at a local church service. Later we enjoy lunch and fellowship with members of the congregation. We return to Baden Baden with plenty of time to explore this elegant town on our own. B/L Monday, September 15, 2008 Rothenburg One of the highlights of our trip is a visit to the best preserved medieval town in Europe Rothenburg. Wander its cobblestone streets in search of the perfect Christmas gifts, walk the ramparts which surround the city, or visit its interesting museums. Tonight this charming town s history comes to life as we follow the Night Watchman on his rounds through Rothenburg. (Rothenburg-1 night) B/D

September 8-19, 2008 Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Eisenach Wittenberg Today we drive from Rothenburg to Eisenach to visit Wartburg Castle where Martin Luther stayed in hiding for one year for his own protection. It was here that he translated the New Testament into German. This afternoon we continue on to Wittenberg where we spend the night. (Wittenberg-1 night) B/D Wednesday, September 17, 2008 Wittenberg Berlin Today is devoted to the heart of the Reformation Wittenberg. Visit the Castle Church and see where Luther inadvertently launched the Reformation on October 31 st, 1517, when he nailed his 95 Theses to the church door. We also visit the best Reformation museum in the world Lutherhalle (Luther House). Other highlights include a visit to fellow Reformer Philip Melanchthon s House and St. Mary s Church, where Luther frequently preached. In the afternoon we drive to Berlin and visit the Dietrich Bonhoeffer House. Bonhoeffer was a German Lutheran pastor and theologian who resisted the Nazis during WWII. (Berlin-2 nights). B/D Thursday, September 18, 2008 Berlin We begin this morning with an orientation tour of Berlin to learn the fascinating history of this city. Berlin has been at the epicenter of world history on several occasions most notably when the wall came down in November of 1989.
