We apologize for the Your Financial Stewardship For the week ended April 10, 2016 Weekly Joyful Giving Envelopes... $ 23,875.00 Offertory Collection...... $ 1,450.00 Budgeted Weekly Joyful Giving $23,500 This weekend we celebrate First Communions! Witnessing First Communions, our children s or that of others, allows us to reflect on the miracle of the gift of God s self in Holy Communion. Many thanks to all the catechists who helped prepare our children to receive Christ for the first time. An even bigger thanks to our parents who have brought their children to this point. I am often reminded of the promises parents make when they get married regarding children. I ask them Do you promise to accept children lovingly from God and bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church? They respond, we do. This is a serious and arduous undertaking. It is one thing to make sure that our child is healthy, educated and socially well adapted, but the greatest responsibility is to teach them their final purpose which is ultimate union with God and how to get there. The path is through Christ and his living Church. So hats off to our parents for getting them to this point! It is not easy being a parent in the modern day and maintaining the priority of God and the Church. Yet with God s help, parents can and often do fulfill this heavy duty and obligation. Pray for our parents because kids, teams and schools can be very demanding that children be with them on Sundays and not with God at his Mass. It is hard to be faithful in the modern age, but the sacrifice and commitment yield a wellspring of spiritual life into eternity. Thank you parents! Hang in there and keep trying. What a long winter this has been. No more snow. I have heard so many persons say this and I admit that I myself have felt the heaviness of this long dreary winter. Add to this the trials of illness, aches, pains, losses, sorrows and the difficulties of life that come to all of us and this can end up taking quite the toll on us. In the midst of all of this though, the promise of Spring is real and encouraging. We cannot stop time, Spring will indeed come regardless of what nature may throw our way in the month of April the warmth will come. What can this teach us? The coming of Spring reminds us of the fact that one day, the final warming, the lasting Spring and the final healing, which we all seek will come. It is not in this life, it lies beyond this life. Our lasting Spring is with God in eternity. This lasting greening is coming, no one can stop it, and for this, we can all take comfort. It does not take away our present challenges but it does bid us to place our hearts with God. It allows us in some way to enter both the joys and the sorrows of others knowing that in the end, we will all finally taste and experience a lasting joy. Let us pray for each other, those who are able to enjoy the gift of Spring and also for those who will find their hardships continuing. We can find some rest even now in the hope and promise of Spring and in the Eternity with God to which it points. Fr. Mark Vander Steeg
