Arts, Commerce & Science College, Panchavati, Nasik-3 UGC - XII Plan Epoch Making scheme Gandhian Studies Centre Report 2016-17 File No : 06/01/2012 (NFE) Mahatma Gandhi, the father of nation, the sculptor of our freedom, the innovator of truth and non-violence, the most popular ideas of the millennium and the upholder of democracy is right suitably called as Mahatma, the great soul. It is the Gandhian ideology that has attracted the attention of the whole world to India. Taking into consideration the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the making of India, the college established Gandhian Studies Centre in the academic year 2013-14 under the Epoch Making Scheme of UGC. The aim and objective of the Gandhian Studies Centre is to revive Gandhian thoughts in the modern age and propagate them by cultivating them in practice. The centre is run by the Department of History which has availed a separate section to the Gandhian Studies Centre. The Head of the Department of History Prof. Pragati Marakwar works as the Co-ordinator of the Centre. At present the study centre has well equipped library containing 400 books on life and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. There are audio visual CDs throwing more light on the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. The centre has collaboration with Gandhi Tirtha Centre, Jalgaon. Through this collaboration centre could avail a collection of idol of Gandhiji, photo-frames, posters, pictures and the popular Charakha of Gandhiji. The separate section in the Dept. of History displays these images, photographs, posters, books and the other things exclusively associated with Mahatma Gandhi. The study Centre has been honored with a Certificate of Merit and Appreciation by Gandhi Research Foundation Jalgaon, for its outstanding contribution for the propagation of Gandhian thoughts. The centre conducts various activities throughout the year to inculcate Gandhian thoughts on young minds. The activities conducted by Gandhian Studies Centre 1. Essay Writing Competition In the month of August 2016 the centre has conducted Essay writing competition on the Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Ninety five students participated in this competition and wrote essays throwing light on different facets of Gandhian philosophy. Later on these essays are published in the form of Manuscript. 2. Guest Lecture Series A guest lecture series was arranged on the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi from 2 nd Oct. to 5 th Oct. 2016, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The focus of the series was the life and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. Mr.Mukund Dixit, Prin. Dr. R.P.Bhamre, Mr. Vaibhav Puranic and Mrs. Vasanti Saur delivered lectures on the life of Gandhi. Page 2

3. Clean India Champaign On the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi a cleanliness Champaign was conducted in the college for the total cleanliness of the college. All the students of Gandhian Study Centre participated in the Champaign. 4. Gandhi Vichar -Sanskar Pariksha To have the feedback of the impact of Gandhian thoughts of the mind of students, an examination was conducted on behalf of Gandhi Tirtha Centre Jalgaon. Near about 87 students appeared for this examination. It is remarkable that Mr. Dipak J. Suryawanshi qualified this exam with extra merits and stood second in the exam and also became the recipient of Silver Medal. Mr. Dipak J. Exhibition and Poster Presentation Competition An Exhibition and Poster Presentation Competition was arranged in the month of Feb.2017. Near about seventeen students participated in it. They prepared posters on the life of Mahatma Gandhi as well as many historical events in which Mahatma Gandhi had crucial participation. Page 4

6. Elocution Competition An Elocution Competition was arranged on the topic Life Style of Mahatma Gandhi. It oriented students about the simple life style and high thinking of Mahatma Gandhi. Seventeen students participated in the competition. Rani Gaikwad and Arti Barve received first and second prize respectively in this competition. Miss. A One Day Workshop The centre arranged a One Day Workshop on Gandhian Thoughts on 10 th March to cherish the memories of the popular historical event Dandhi Yatra, the Salt March conducted in March 1930. Along with the students of the centre many outside students from Manmad, Yeola, Malegaon, Nandgaon and Nashik participated in the workshop. Page 6

Prin. Dr. Bapusaheb Jagdale delivering Presidencial speech in Gandhian Studies centre workshop Adevoted Gandhian Philosopher Shree Mukund Dixit and Prof. Dr. Milind Wagh worked as Resource Persons for this workshop. They cherished many memories of Mahatma Gandhi through their speeches. They also focused on the need of Gandhian thoughts in the present context. Charakha training and Khadi were the special features of the workshop. In the third session of the workshop a senior Gandhian Thought Activist Mrs. Vasanti Saur introduced the concept of Charakha to the students and imparted them basic training in the operation of Charakha. Through this training students had real experience of operating Charakha. Near about 104 students participated in the workshop. There is a separate Organizing Committee to conduct the various activities of the centre. The committee works under the guidance of Prin. Dr.B.S Jagdale and Vice Principal Dr. M.A.Bharadwaj., Prof. Pragati Markwar works as a Co-ordinator and Prof. N. J. Patil, Prof. Manisha Gaikwad, Dr. Santosh Chobe and Dr. Minakhsi Patil, Dr. Rupali Deore, are the active members of this organizing committee.
